Mamiya ZD Digtial SLRJP Distribution, the UK distributor for Mamiya, have today issued the following statement in response to the recent internet news about their sale.

“We have been informed by Mamiya-OP Co., Ltd. that they are to transfer their Optical Equipment Business to Cosmo Digital Imaging Co., Ltd.

The Board of Directors have approved a contract to sell the entirety of the optical instruments business section to Cosmos Scientific Systems Inc. The plan will be put before shareholders at a general meeting scheduled for June 29th, 2006 - and if approval is gained, the transaction will be concluded on September 1st 2006.

This is a positive move for the Mamiya brand. The integration of Mamiya’s design and manufacturing techniques with Cosmo’s digital technology will enable the new organisation to fully exploit future growth opportunities.

Mamiya have confirmed that their forward plans include both professional medium format film and digital cameras.”

whew.. as a shooter of a mamiya 645 and RZ, i was a bit worried. glad to hear they're going to continue developing the line. i seem to have the midas touch with camera companies. my other main equipment is bronica and minolta - whatever i use seems to go out of business. oops

Gonna be interesting what results from this, Mamiya personnel have been designated to continue service on previously sold equipment, that's about all they have leaked so-far. Are we in for a Cosmiya, or maybe a Mamiyos? Please give me a 20 mp back for my 645 pro, for $1500! Just the back! I bet they would sell like hotcakes!

Mamiya is finished. Cosmo has two employees, and bought the assets for about USD $1M.

Pentax is about ready to hang it up, too. They've been showing that medium format digital mockup since last Photokina.

I still don't understand why people will drop thousands on a Hassie digital. Hasn't anyone heard of diminishing returns??

My daughter always says "they are using the Hasselblad", during her "Next Top Model" program! Awesome rig! Awesome BIG images!
