I often wonder how much of the reporting about memory cards is based on fact, rather than PR or marketing hype about how good they supposedly are.

I've only had one card go bad on me. And that was a Lexar.

Since then I've shot somwhere in the region of 50,000 frames using cards that weren't from a big name or were OEM.

So the reason I should pay twice or three or more ttimes the price to a "big name" supplier is???

As a photography fan myself, sometimes I really got confused with different brands and facts about memory cards. With using them more, I found out that, this technology is pretty mature. They can all surve the same function well, so it all come down to different PR and marketing strategies.

As a professional photographer I prefer to use 8-16 GB card and carry about 3-4 with me all the time. Using a 64 GB card you are putting all your eggs in one basket as they say. You would definitely need to ensure you have some way of backing up your images with a large card.

I am a professional photographer and take thousands of pics each year w/ my nikon d3 (probably >50K) I must be able to count on my udma cards. I use only Lexar 8gb.I have 17 of them and have never had one go bad. I used Ridata in my D200 on one occasion and lost all of the pics. Never will I use anything but Lexar- can't risk it.

We are a leading UK memory card retailer. I agree that Lexar are a very reliable brand but no more reliable than most other brands. In fact the most reliable brand here in the UK is Integral. We sell most available brands but we have only received around 5 or 6 faulty Integral cards back from around 50,000 sold. I would actually say that Sandisk are more reliable than Lexar but in reality many faulty cards that are returned back to us are as a result of human error. They may have a corrupt file on them or they could have just been misused by the owner.
