Net SE, the company which took ownership of the Meyer Optik Görlitz brand name in 2014, has opened a new subsidiary, Meyer Optik USA, headquartered in Atlanta. The new office will support the distribution of Meyer Optik Görlitz products in the United States. It will also spearhead the relaunch of the legendary Trioplan f2.8/100 lens, which will contain fifteen steel diaphragm blades, resulting in a circular aperture. The original Trioplan was constructed in 1916 and is recognised for its classic ‘soap bubble’ bokeh. Meyer Optik USA opens new office ready for relaunch of legendary ‘classic bokeh’ camera lens first made in 1916

Atlanta GA - May 21, 2015 – net SE, the company which took ownership of the Meyer Optik Goerlitz brand name in 2014, has opened a new subsidiary, Meyer Optik USA Inc., headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.

Meyer Optik Goerlitz (also known as Meyer Optik Görlitz), started manufacturing innovative, high-quality lenses in the German town of Goerlitz (Görlitz) in 1896.

The new Meyer Optik USA office will support the distribution of Meyer Optik Goerlitz products in the United States. It will also spearhead the relaunch of the legendary Trioplan f2.8/100 lens. The original Trioplan was constructed in 1916 and is recognized for its classic ‘soap bubble’ bokeh.

Bokeh is the quality of aesthetic blur in parts of an image which are out of focus. Derived from the Japanese word ‘boke’, meaning ‘blur’ or ‘haze’, bokeh describes the way a particular lens renders out-of-focus points of light. The Trioplan f2.8/100 will contain fifteen steel aperture blades, compared to the six plastic blades in modern lenses. This results in a circular aperture rather than the more common hexagon, allowing the lens to maintain a ‘soap bubble bokeh’ which is pleasant and ethereal to the eye.

Dr. Stefan Immes, Executive Director of net SE said: “The name Meyer Optik Goerlitz has been associated with innovation, precision, durability and quality in the world of photography for nearly 120 years. We’re proud to have revived the brand last year but this next step—to remanufacture one of the classic lenses of all time, the Trioplan f2.8/100—is a very exciting time for us. It’s great to bring back such a highly-regarded and sought-after lens nearly a century after its first appearance. We look forward to bringing the Trioplan f2.8/100 to a new fan base so it can experience a modern take on this classic soap bubble bokeh lens.”

The net SE team have been working on design, testing and prototypes ready for pre-orders of the new Trioplan f2.8/100 in June 2015.

The first remanufactured Trioplan f2.8/100, due to be announced in June 2015, will fit Canon, Fuji, M42, MFT, Nikon, and Sony-E camera mounts. More details are available by signing up for updates at: http://www.meyer-optik-goerlitz.com/sign-up/
