New DxOMark Scores Available for Fujifilm FinePix X100
DxO Labs have unveiled their findings and DxOMark Sensor Scores for the Fujifilm FinePix X100 large-sensor digital compact camera. According to their measurements, the X100’s sensor is essentially on a par with the Pentax K-x and the Sony A55 in terms of colour depth and dynamic range, and is significantly ahead of both in terms of high-ISO image quality in low light. The Nikon D7000 and the Sony A580, on the other hand, scored better on every front. (Remember that these numbers measure raw sensor performance only, and tell you nothing about things like the cameras’ handling, operational speed, image processing, mechanical quality or overall ease of use.)

It did NOT score higher than the Sony A55 for colour depth and was equal in dynamic range so why are you lying?!
I thought this website was more accurate than this....

John Oakley,
"the X100’s sensor is essentially on a par with the Pentax K-x and the Sony A55 in terms of colour depth and dynamic range, and is significantly ahead of both in terms of high-ISO image quality in low light." - according to DxOMark info, that is a fact...
It beats A55 sensor, however if one looks at the graphics it will see that X100 is indeed a big 'liar' in ISO real values, real maximum ISO used by the camera is 1000, meaning that above the ISO 1600 the X100 applies digital gain by pushing the curves, usually this results in quite some extra noise appearing, but X100 JPEG processor copes with it quite well.
Pentax K-x also plays a bit by filtering the RAW file in camera for ISOs above 1600...
It should be noted that these 3 cameras are on par with each other when comes to RAW performance, but X100 has a neat viewfinder and old style look and a better and more limited ISO behaviour, K-x is a LOT cheaper than those 2, and Sony... well ... it's more conservative...

Sony isn't anywhere near as expensive as the Fuji.
£999 for the fuji or A55 with kit lens for £589. No contest plus you have options with an SLR not stuck with some has been design only old people want to relive their youth with.
Why live int he past with designs, if people in the past had done this too then we'd never have new designs!

John,
"It did NOT score higher than the Sony A55 for colour depth and was equal in dynamic range"
Um, I thought this was kind of obvious from the sentence, "the X100’s sensor is essentially on a par with the Pentax K-x and the Sony A55 in terms of colour depth and dynamic range". Nobody said it scored higher than the A55 for either of these measurements.

Why most cameras are Japan brand.
This model looks like an old one. How old I don’t know.
