Olympus C-755 Ultra ZoomOlympus Japan have today announced the new C-755 Ultra Zoom and C-745 Ultra Zoom digital cameras, which are updated versions of the C-750 and C-740 respectively. I agree, it's probably best to wait. Using the babelfish translator, the only differences between the C-750 and C-755 I could find was that the C-755 comes in both silver or black, that it has "PictBridge correspondence", which means you should be able to peint directly to a lot of printers in the future, and that it is only has Japanese menus.

Given the incremental change in product number from 750 to 755, they may be the only changes that Olympus have added to the new models.

On the Olympus Japan site they have a chart comparing the 2. It looks like the differences come down to:

1. 755 has a "2 megapixel superzoom" which supposedly brings the effective optical zoom to 14x, but I'm not sure exactly how this system works. Perhaps by bringing resolution downt o 2 megapixels.
2. PictBridge compatible for direct printing. I guess this is the biggest change.

I'm looking for a new camera so maybe I can find a good store to test this out this weekend.

Thanks for the info Eric grin

It does sound like the 2 megapixel superzoom feature will give you extra reach at the expense of reducing the capture size.

Let us know if you find one to test!

Olympus C-755 UltraZoom UZ camera selling in Japan for under JPY 40,000 (US $ 365)

This morning (Wednesday March 10) I found a leading Japanese high-street store aelling brand-new boxed C-755 UZs for less than JPY 40,000 (including tax).

If there is any interest I may consider buying a couple and shipping them overseas. Any interest please e-mail me.

Olympus must have made some regional changes to the camera's specification - what exactly are the differences Deck?

Does the C-755 have the True Turbo Pic mode for faster bootup and less shutter delay as do the C-765 and C-770? Does it also have the hotshoe like the C-750? Also, does it still use 4 AA cells or have they changed to a proprietary battery?

Thanks for any info you may be able to provide, Al . . .

Hi -- I was wondering if you all think this camera would be a good purchase? I need at least a 4MP , and I could really use a camera that can handle indoor photos well. Any input would be appreciated.

The nearest models that I can find on the Olympus UK website are the C760, C-750 and C-740:

http://www.olympus.co.uk/consumer/digimg/intro.cfm?id=C-760 ULTRA ZOOM

http://www.olympus.co.uk/consumer/digimg/intro.cfm?id=C-750 ULTRA ZOOM

http://www.olympus.co.uk/consumer/digimg/intro.cfm?id=C-740 ULTRA ZOOM

I'm not sure if they are the equivalent to the Japanese models.

So, along with others, I have ordered the C755 from Costco online sans reviews. I'm hoping to have good results and look forward to enough people owning one to finally see some reviews. I love Costco!

I just received mine from Costco.
It is marked 755 uz, but all of the lit with is is 750 uz.
I called the Olympus service center and was told the only difference is the marking. That They mark them 755 for Costco and there are no other changes from the 750.
Kind of misleading!

Hi Joel, thanks for letting us know what you found out. So, if I understand you correctly, this is really the 750, it's just MARKED as 755?? thanks much, ALSO, how long did it take you to receive it from costco? I ordered Friday, and it still hasn't even shipped!

thanks,

Tammy,
I ordered mine on June 3rd and received it June 11th.
I just got home from vacation and unpacked it last night so I have not had time to try much. I was kind of hoping for some kind of upgrade between the 750 and 755, but the reviews are good for the 750.

I need to change my c-755 from Japanese to English.

The menu on the C-755 is different from the manual that came with the camera (c=750)

Any ideas?

Thanks

Ben, I had good luck with calling the Olympus phone number listed in the manual.
They talked me through the menus. I did not have to change the language but saw there was a spot that allowed this.

I placed my order through Costco on 6-10 and it finally shipped on 6-15. The only thing the UPS site tells me is it's "In transit" to Jacksonville (FL). And, am I reading this right? Some of the menus may need conversion from Japanese?

Thanks Joel

I called Olympus. They could not help. Is it possible that my C-755 is ONLY for Japanese? There is no language change option in the menu system.

Any ideas out there?

PS
I took the camera back to Costco for an exchange but they did not have the C-755 in stock.

Costco is IRRITATING - Took them 5 days to ship from the time they charged my card. If you click on your order number on their website, you can eventually get to the actual tracking number. Put that into UPS's website and you'll get your estimated delivery date (not shown on Costco's site). Mine for instance will be here on the 21st - the day I am leaving for a 9 day trip. So, because it took them so long to ship, I will not have the camera for the trip, and I will need to have someone collect it for me from my porch.

I will also need to pick up the 10x optical zoom olympus that they have in the store itself to take with me. I think it may be a 750? I did see one there, though, but it is not 755.

It's also worth mentioning though, that costco ignored and never replied to any of my emails about my order. Not a very impressive online store to order from.

I purchased the C-755 from Costco only to find out it is exactly the same as the C-750. I'm returning my camera to Costco and buying the C-750 for $100 less.

Costco does say on their website that the estimated delivery time for this camera is 10-15 business days. I placed the order for C-755 on 10th and accrdong to UPS website, I should receive it tomorrow (18th). But if the menu's are in Japanese, I am going to return it.

Tammy,

Thanks for the info about checking the UPS site. My original post said I checked it and could not get much info. The site I checked was on the Costco site. I thought that put me into UPS when I clicked on the number. WRONG!! I went to the REAL UPS site like you suggested and got the real skinny. My camera should be here on 6-21. I just hope I'm not disappointed and would definitely like to know if this is a different model or one just re-numbered as a Costco identifier. And by the way, Costco on line does not offer the C-750 and my warehouse in Altamonte Springs, FL does not carry it. So, it's the 755 or nothing.

None of the menu's on mine are in Japanese.

Thanks Rich -- That's funny, you mentioned the Alamonte Springs store not having it, since I JUST got off the phone trying to find out if they had it there. That's where we're headed on vacation- Disney, etc. I won a truckload of $ on WHEEL OF FORTUNE,and am taking my son to Disney for 9 days.

My old Ricoh 5000 has seen better days, and was looking for a great digital camera to capture it all. I ended up buying the c-740 at my local costco for a whopping $379+tax (its $299 at amazon, but I dont have time to receive it, as I am leaving on the 21st around 10am, ironically the same date ups will be delivering my camera (but later in the day, i'm sure).
So, now I bought 2 cameras, at least one of which will need to go back. what a mess . . .

Small world. Well, enjoy your stay and bring lots of that "hard earned" money 'cause The Mouse needs to buy lots of cheese to make him (and his stockholders) happy. And, bring lots of sunscreen and at least one good umbrella. It's summertime in Florida and afternoon thunderstorms are the norm.

I purchased a C-755 from Costco.com. I too was disappointed with the order information on the website. The web site went from processing to on my door step. Was never able to get any tracking information.

Had it for about 2 weeks, thus far I've been pretty happy with the camera, had a C-740 prior to this one. My C-740 got dropped and the Costco's in Pheonix don't carry any of the C-7xx series cameras. Coscto did return the C-740 with out any issues.

The differences between the C-740 and the C-755 have definitely been nice.
1. 4.0 MP vs. 3.2MP
2. Auido with movies.
3. Hot shoe.
4. Remote controlable. (though I hate the fact you have to buy the remote seperately.)

I too ordered this camera from Costco. Rec'd it today. An information sheet in the box states "Please note that the c755 UZ and C750UZ are identical in specifications and functionality"
I was able to use the $100 offer so I ended w/ s/h & tax I paid $400.00. Not bad smile

Well, mine came in as scheduled on the 21st. The first thing I did was print out the manual in a size I could actually SEE, put it in a 3 ring binder and started studying. After 3 days of reading, playing and experimenting I'm impressed. The camera has so many features and gives you almost complete control over the process of picture taking. And in full automatic it seems to do a more than an adequate job. I haven't printed anything up yet so I can't comment on the quality of the prints. I especially like the 4 "MyMode" settings where you can set up 4 customized modes which are accessed by turning the top wheel, then pressing a button till the setting you want comes up then point and shoot. This combined with the modes already accessible by just turning the top wheel makes it a camera which can be quickly set up for nearly any type of shot. I'm impressed with what I got for the money.

i am curious how long the battery last before having to be recharged. also, what's the flash distance?

9:11 pm - Thursday, June 24, 2004

#37 Rich

According the manual the flash range in wide angle is 1 to about 15 feet. In telephoto it's 4 to about 11.5 feet. As far as battery life, I haven't used the litium ion batteries. I have several NiMH rechargeables from my last camera. I played around for about 2 and a half to 3 hours before they died. Those were 1700 ma GP rechargeables.

The Costco 755 offer caught my eye today. The $100 rebate goes thru July.
I have little digtal camera experience but have REALLY ticked off with the 'shutter delay'. (SLR's were NEAT!)

Can anyone describe the shutter delay on ths 755 versus other cameras?

That True Turbo Pic mode sounds enticing. DOES this 755 have it.

I'm a new granddaddy, so I GOTTA get SOME decent digtal camera.

The shutter delay is much better on this than on my Olympus D520.
Joel

#40 Rich

The 755 does not have the TruePic Turbo (I think that's what it's called) and as far as the shutter delay, most of the consumer/hobbyist type digitals have it. So for now it's learn to adjust and live with it or be prepared to spend $800 plus for a digital SLR. By the way. Is anybody interested in a Canon A-1 with 3 Canon lenses (standard, wide angle, and 70-210 Zoom)?

I got the camera from Costco last week (7/7/2004).

A couple of notes:
1. If you want sound with your movies, you have to enable it each time you turn the camera on. Once it is enabled and you are recording, you cannot use the zoom feature.
2. The battery life is long, compared to my previous D540. I took about 30 pictures and probably 3 minutes of movies before it ran out. This was on the lithium batteries out of the box. The NiCAD batteries that come with it were charged for a day and are still working strong, probably 20 picts and a couple minutes of movies.

A question:
1. How do you charge the lithium batteries? Can you charge them in the camera, can you use the NiCAD charger that came as an accessory bonus, or do I have to buy a new lithium battery charger?

Other than that, I am impressed with the features and the picture quality. I am an amature, at best, but I was very impressed with the colors it takes. I found viewing through the LCD does not show the true picutre sometimes, especialy the reds, but when you look at the picts on a pc, its georgous.

Thanks in advance.

The lithium ion batteries are NOT rechargeable. Toss em'. And if I could make a suggestion. Buy some good NiMH batteries and a charger. They last a lot longer than the NiCads. I've taken over 50 pics (some with flash) and still have juice left. Try to find batteries that are at least 2000 mAh. My daughter just bought 4 2200 mAh AA batteries and a charger at Target or Wal Mart or one of those places and paid less than 20 bucks. Also check out Steve's Digicams (do a Google search). They have a listing of several batteries and their power along with how many minutes they last.

Whoa! Lithium *ION* batteries ARE rechargeable.

Regular Lithium batteries are not.

9:56 pm - Tuesday, July 13, 2004

#46 Rich

OOOOPS!!
Did I say Lithuim Ion? Definitely my mistake. I guess I have those on the brain since I've been looking for rechargeable batteries for my cell phone. But, the batteries that came with my 755 are just plain Lithium and supposedly last a while but are not rechargeable. I carry them as an emergency back up along with 4 extra NiMH's.

Sorry for the slip and thanks Jason.

Hi all!

Took my 755 on vacation and wanted to report on battery life. Shot 300 photos (NOT including ones I didn't keep and immediately deleted) over 9 days, many with a flash, NOT including test shots and all the practice zooming in and out, as well as showing 2 other people how to use the camera. The batteries finally died when I got home, but, oddly enough, with almost NO warning, they just DIED. Odd - butt still, they went A LONG LONG LONG time, IMHO, for a digital camera. My old Ricoh 5000 shot about 36 shots and died. Seriously.

Haven't had the photos printed yet, will do that and report on the prints.

I DID buy 4 rechargeable cr-v3 batteries and 2 chargers (each charger only charges one battery and the camera takes 2 cr-v3's to run) from the as seen on tv website recommended on steve's digicam website.

So far I am very happy with the camera. It shoots QUICKLY without blur, so you never miss a shot even when zoomed (just make sure you have adequate light).

Hello Mark,
Can you already publish the c 745 specifications in english?
It is so difficult to find information of this camera in international language on internet.
I have several doubts regarding that it's a non mencioned model on most of related digital cameras sites. Some informations are that it is not an updated version, but a limited one, compared with c 740. e.g: does not bring camedia master software, does not have technical support in most of the european countries...
Could you please give me all the informations you have?
Thank you in advance

Fry's Electronic in Fremont, CA is selling the real C-755 (Black) for $399. It is not the Costoc C-755. Fry's online website is outpost.com (I don't know they have it yet or not). As far as I can tell, the new C-755 with a better chip set that will make it faster.

Also, what is TTL (time to Live) focus? And does the 755 have auto and manual focus, or just manual?

Hi Jo,

TTL stands for Through The Lens.

I have an Olympus C-700 Ultra zoom and want to upgrade to a camera with at least 4 megapixels and keep the long zoom capability. I have been researching other brands because of some negatives with the C700: the settings don't hold and I have to reset to SHQ every time I turn on the camera; I find the menus hard to read and navigate; you can't see anything in the viewfinder in low light situations. If these problems (particularly problems with settings) do not exist in the C755 I would like to reconsider getting it. Other models I'm considering are Canon 1S IS and Kodak6490. Any advice?

1:34 am - Sunday, September 5, 2004

#62 jo

my C755 came in 2 days from Costco. I chose it over the Canon because Dpreview.com and PCmag.com rated it higher for several reasons - it weighs half as much, so is less awkward; it zooms faster; its lenses are faster overall, and it is a better price/value at $379. Not having Image Stabilization seems to not be a problem so far because of its lighter weight, as my photos have been clear, even with The Super Macro, which has taken great closeups at 2" of some live subjects (flowers).

4:59 am - Sunday, September 5, 2004

continued. The menus have been easy for me to navigate, and I've taken great pictures in my first 30 minutes of use, and you can have 4 My Mode settings, which solves one of your complaints with the 700. I haven't tried it on low light...

Hi, I just bought a C-755 from Fry's store in Las Vegas. Mine is black. As far as I know, the only difference with the C750 is the PictBridge support. Also you could find some bundle differences. Mine came with 2 CRV3 non rechargeable batteries and not remote control. Olympus site shows the C750 comes with 4 rechargeable AA batteries and remote control included.

I was looking for the C-765, but I found a good deal for the C-755 plus 128XD card at Fry's. The C-765 does not have the capacity for external flash, its body is mostly plastic, is more compact (so weigth less). Both cameras have the same features and functions (as far as I know). The C-765 has better shooter perfomance (faster), but quality of pictures seems to be the same.

I owned a C700, and I am very happy with the MyMode capacity of the C-755, where you can define up to 4 pre set modes with your own settings. This a nice way to get to your SHQ and other settings.

My two cents.

Jo, I bought the c755 from costco and I am quite happy with it. The big advantage is that it has 40 total optical zoom. You can also set your camera to do auto focus. Hope that helps
PS. It does come with a lens cap that attaches to your camera so you won't lose it. It's a spring cap--which means you just squeeze two claps and it springs off.

Hi, I just got a Olympus C-755 from Fry's Electronics. I called Olympus USA just to ask why they have no infomration on their web site about it and was told that it is only being sold be a select few companys in the US and that it was made for overseas sales. I got the camera for $379 and it came with a free Olympus 128 meg. XD picture card. I had the C-750 until I was robbed and I loved it. I hope this one is as good. It feels the same but it is black in color and did not come with a remote control as far as the box says. I have not opend it yet just played with it at the store before buying. I would love to read some real reviews on this camera. I hope some are made avalible soon. Just to note Outpost.com has the C-755 for $349 but no free 128 meg. XD picture card.
Thank you,

Thanks for the info James.

I'm amazed that a digital camera that is not widely available has generated so much interest!

Outpost.com (Fry's website) now has the C755 for $299. Store has it for $399. Go figure.

I just bought the C-755 from Fry's Outpost for $299. As far as I can tell, the difference is that it only comes with a 16mb picture card and no rechargeable batteries--just two non-rechargeable cr-v3's. Adding a 256 mb picture card runs about $50 and two sets of 2300 Powerex NimH batteries plus great Maha charger runs about $57 with shipping & tax. The camera came in black--I would have preferred silver. Haven't decided if I'm keeping it.

I saw the Costco deal for the C-755 and went to e-bay to compare. Ended up getting a refurbished model direct from Olympus on e-bay. I paid $307.00 and $7.00 s&h, they are now selling for less than I paid. I have had mine for a week now and am very pleased with it . The camera and packaging all looked new.

I have lots of problems with the Japanese menu as well. I found Olympus offering firmware upgrade service, but it is limited to American model. I wonder if that can be applied to the Japanese model as well. I dare not try it, because they say the upgrade is irreversible! Any suggestions? Thanks a million.
Best regards,

I'll toss my hat into the ring also in regards to changing the language setting for the C-745.
Did anyone ever find a solution for this? I've contacted Olympus support to see if they can help via e-mail. If anything comes of it, I'll post it here smile

ok.. so I've found the following page.

If you go to this page, it's completely in Japanese.

http://digital-faq.olympus.co.jp/faq/1028/app/servlet/qadoc?DI003244

While my Japanese is terrible, I was able to understand the following:
(NOTE: you need Japanese fonts installed to see this properly)

The fourth row from the bottom says:

言語切替日本語のみ 4 ヶ国語(日本語 、英語、フランス語、ドイツ語 の切り替えが可能)

This means that the C-745 and C-755 are both Japanese only, and that the 730/740/750 models all have four language options, Japanese, English, French and German, and you can change between them.

I guess this settles it, once and for all:

Dear Mr. Daye

Thank you for your e-mail concerning your C-745 UltraZoom.

While appreciating your interest, C-745 UltraZoom does not
have a function to change the language menu to English.

For your information, the operation of C-745 UltraZoom is
basically the same as C-740UltraZoom.
We advise you to download and refer to the reference manual
of C-740UltraZoom.
The main difference between C-745 UltraZoom and C-740 UltraZoom is
that C-745 UltraZoom is compatible with PictBridge.

< Download instruction manual >
http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_download_manuals.asp

1) Choose "Digital-C series".
2) Choose "C-740 UltraZoom".

Best regards.

Hey Folks,

Does anyone else's C-755 sound loose? During normal hand movements, I can hear the lens gears "jiggle" back and forth.

FYI, Amazon has a rebate for $50.00 until 9/04/05 (must be post marked by 10/04/05), so if you buy it before that date and as long as it's on sale, your final price will be $199.94. I paid $379 for mine at Costco last summer.

K. Bryant, Leif, Act, and G. Oldfield
I recently returned a C-755 because the camera lens sounded like crap(loose/defective). For the one day I had the C-755, I thought it was sweet. I obtained a replacement C-755. The lens on the replacement also sounds like crap. I'm wondering if this is a defective batch being sold for $200. Could you guys do me a favor and tilt (back and forth) your C-755s and let me know if your lens sounds loose or defective? I'm leaning towards returning the replacement. Thnx

The rattle sound with your lens is not a defect. All the UZ series has this sound. I have friends who have the C-700 and C-720 with this same sound. They have taken numerous pictures for years with their cameras. It sounds sorta cheap but I does not effect the function of the unit. I wouldn't personally worry about it.......just enjoy the great quality pictures you will be taking without spending the BIG BUCKS !!!

If I shake it somewhat vigorously it does rattle, but just tipping it side to side mine doesn't make any noise.

So - can I assume from the discussion here that it is just not possible to change the language on a C 755 from japanese to English?

My Olympus C-755 came with English menu. Also the loose barrel sound is natural.Bought camera 3/31/2005. Love camera for features, but have to read manual/contact tech suppt. for details.Paid 250$ at Fry's spc.sale. Great for price:w/b for color corr.,3400x 2200 pixels(7.48Mp) for manual enlarge SHQ mode, though is 4Mp in normal mode. Also super macro,Noise Rej,manual focus, and hot shoe flash is great for price.Wish camera had also bulb mode for up to 8 minutes like digital cameras with removable lens so can use for Astronomy photo mode, long exposure.
Like I say, camera is a bargain for what I paid for the camera. Always did like Olympus products. I am familiar with their microscope products, so I know about their quality.
