New Pentax K to Come on the 20th
Pentax Germany says on its website that the new K series Pentax DSLR is coming on the 20th of May. We have already told you about a teaser campaign launched by Pentax Japan that puts the announcement date on the 21st. The discrepancy is apparent only, as Japan and Germany are in two very different time zones. From the countdown running on the German website, one can deduce that the new Pentax DSLR will be unveiled at 4pm CET on the 20th, which is 0:00 on the 21st in Japan. The official name of the product is unknown, but it is widely expected that the new DSLR will be called the Pentax K-7. TeKaDe, which bills itself as “Germany’s and Austria’s Number One Pentax Shop” expects the camera to become commercially available at the end of June / beginning of July, and puts the price at around €1,500.

Looking forward, I'll hope it's a steep "backwords" for more control by the photagrapher and less of the camera-automatics. And of course that Pentax keep up to the good tradition making it possible using old lenses.

Before buying my Sony I seriously considered having a Pentax. The drow backs (from my point of view) are that Pentax doesn't have an every day good lens like the 16-80mm or the 16-105mm from Sony (or at least didn't have at the time of my decision), and Pentax's good lenses are realy very expensive. I still think I haven't done a mistake, just because I'm quite happy with my Sony A350 and with my 16-105mm.

Way to go, Pentax! This one is a winner! Now all they need is good marketing and have the stores stock these... hard to find Pentax gear on the shelves these days...
