Nikon - Photokina 2010
Nikon’s bright yellow stand attracts a huge crowd, with most of the visitors being eager to get their hands on the new Nikon D7000 digital SLR camera and some of the company’s legendary long telephoto lenses. But while the D7000 is clearly the most popular camera with the press and public alike, visitors also seem happy to try out the Nikon 3100 and the company’s older cameras as well. As to the lenses, there is a small stand sporting cameras equipped with telephoto lenses including the new AF-S DX 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6 VR, 200-400mm f/4G ED VR II and 70-200mm VR II offerings.
The compact camera collection features some of the latest Coolpixes including the S1100pj projector camera and the ultra-slim S80. There’s absolutely no evidence of a mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera though, not even a mock-up or a prototype.
Photokina’s press day, 20th September, marked the first screening of “Benevolent Mischief”, a film shot entirely on the Nikon D7000 by Chase Jarvis, who proceeded to deliver a keynote address to the assembled press. At the same event Iwaoka San, President of Nikon Europe announced Nikon’s partnership with the 21 Icons Global Project, which he described as “a visual celebration and intimate personal chronicle of those people who have individually enlightened and enriched the world in recent times”.

I am totally disappointed in the lack of Nikon pro-gear shown at Photokina. The D700 is so old it is growing moss, while the company continues to flood the market with amateur cameras.
I understand that the amateur market is their bread and butter, but it moves in a five year cycle. Right now, everyone who wants a digicam already has it. In five years they MAY want something better.
but in the meantime, it's time to replace the D700 with something that has video too.

Video schmideo. I love the D700 BECAUSE it has no video. This rush to load everything into one vehicle is BS. I own video cameras. I own still cameras. I want each maximized to their fullest potential.

I am with you Mark. I wanted an updated full frame, not another improved intro camera.

Agree with you Mark Elias. I using Nikon D3 and looking to Nikon D7000 crop direction.
100% agree with you, that it's time to replace the D700 with something that has video too.

I own a D90 but will likely skip the D7000 in favour an FX body with all the features of the D7000, and buy it used on Ebay in two years's time.
