Nikon is launching a new AA-powered superzoom camera, the Nikon Coolpix L110 with a 15x zoom Nikkor lens and 720p HD movie recording with stereo sound. Successor to the L100 we reviewed last year, the Nikon Coolpix L110 boasts a 12.1-megapixel imager, a 28-420mm equivalent zoom lens with vibration reduction (VR) and a three-inch LCD monitor with anti-reflection coating and a resolution of 460,000 dots. Available from mid February in a choice of black or red, the Nikon Coolpix L110 is priced at £199.99/ €240.00 / $279.95.

Nikon Press Release

An impressive all-rounder, the COOLPIX L110

The COOLPIX L110 combines leading technology with ease of use to reliably capture those important moments. The wide angle 15x zoom NIKKOR lens gives outstanding precision and sharp resolution and it gives the freedom to choose between capturing beautiful stills or great HD movies in stereo sound, all conveniently viewed on the large 7.5 cm (3 inch) high-resolution LCD monitor. To add to that it has 12.1 megapixels, five anti-blur functions, an ergonomic grip, 1 cm macro and 15 scene modes to make sure your pictures turn out the way you envisage. The power-efficient COOLPIX L110 can shoot more pictures than most digital cameras using AA batteries so you don’t have to worry about running out of power– whether you’re at home or travelling abroad.

Highlights of the COOLPIX L110 include:

·      12.1 Megapixels and a 15x Optical Zoom-NIKKOR Glass Lens (28mm wide-angle to 420mm super-telephoto)
·      3.0-inch high-resolution HVGA (460,000-dot) Clear Color Display with anti-reflection coating
·      HD movies (720p) with Stereo Sound and Sports Continuous Shooting
·      AA-battery power
·      Available in February 2010 for $279.95 in Black or Red

Its fun features and chic styling makes the Nikon Cool pix L110 a tasty choice for casual point-and-shoot use.It comes with notable features include optical image stabilization,an overzealous warning that pops up if it thinks someone in the photo blinked,auto scene selection from one of seven options,in-camera contrast enhancement and perspective control and a mini-HDMI port for connecting directly to an HDTV for slide-show playback.Well i like this camera and i m buying for my brother.

I HAVE SEEN THIS CAMERA L110 CLOSELY. IT IS GOOD FOR NON PROFESSIONAL PHTO CAPTURING FANS. THE BEST THING IS THAT IT IS USING 4 PENCIL CELL AND SHALL BE AVAILABLE ALL THE TIME IN FUTURE. REST OF THE FEATURES ARE ALSO GOOD.

Hi, I'm contemplating between Canon SX120 and this one. Which one would you suggest and why? Also does this have an option of Li-ion batteries? Is it suitable for high altitudes and cold weather regions like Ladakh?

@ Ruchi

6:14 am - Monday, May 3, 2010

#17 Koushik Roy

@Sagar
but one thing i must say that in the field of picture quality and speed of snaps one after another L110 is far better than that of canon powershot sx120IS....

7:27 am - Monday, May 3, 2010

#18 tara

I had 3 options in my mind. Nikon l110, p100 and Panasonic FZ35. But everytime I go to the store I see another camera and get comfused. Today the sales man recommended me Canon sx120IS. The price of L110 and sx120is is same i.e $249 and that of p100 and FZ35 is same $450. I like the looks of p100 but its costly and sx120 has crappy looks. L110 looks good but sx120is has better image quality.....I guess there is no camera which is best in every way. Or is it?

2:37 am - Tuesday, May 4, 2010

#19 tara

what about sx20is? howz this camera?

2:49 am - Tuesday, May 4, 2010

#20 Koushik Roy

@tara
who says that SX120IS has better picture quality than L110?
L110 has superb image quality.
but the drawback of L110 is its fully automatic...
where SX120IS has aperture priority and shutter priority.
If u have no problem to use a camera where u dnt need to adjust shutter speed and aperture manually then just go for L110 within that price range.No other option.It wl be the best.
But if can afford more then go for P100...it has everything u need....

6:22 am - Tuesday, May 4, 2010

#21 frikkie

tara

the best adivise i can give u is to test all the cameras and work with it.i tested and all the nikon canon and kodak the p100 pic quality is not so good as the l110 and if i go for a canon i will go for the d10 witch is water proof and take exelent pics. nikon if u can go for a dslr like the nikon d3000 or similar. if not go for the l110 exilent pics all around. for kodak go for the z980.

hope this help

I am a beginner. So I dont know much about photography. And definitely not about manual controlls. I was thinking of buying a Dslr but then I thought first to get the hang of photography with a decent digital camera. Then if I feel the need of a Dslr I will go for it. The main thing I want is a nice image quality and a good zoom for now. I will learn the manual controls once I own the camera. If I have to go for P100 then why not FZ38. I've read the reviews and everybody is happy with it. Hey Koushik can you please send me your flicker link. I want to see the images of L100.

its frustrating..

Hey, thanks for the great review. ive read what people have been posting. but i am in the same situation as Tara. I want an affordable point-and-shoot camera with great quality pictures and HD video and i guess easy to use. But i do have one question, how important is having this 'manual control' to beginners? Many people have said that the only negative part of this camera is that it's mostly automatic. I was debating between this camera and the P100. But since im a beginner i want a good camera to practice with. And i think P100 is going to be a Big Jump for someone like me. Unless this 'jump' is better than having this 'automatic' camera. XP please respond.

hi.
i'm a little bit confused.which 1 is better?p100 or L110?i read about the review of p100,but mostly the user unhappy with it.i mean the picture quality ( i already check it).is the picture quality of L110 is better then p100?
tq!

@Agac
Hi
Just a friendly suggestion..I too had Nikon P100 in my mind but after reading the reviews I have decided for Panasonic FZ35. Price difference is also not much. I have not read a single comment which is good about P100. Although the picture quality of L110 is better than P100.

Fujifilm s1800 or Nikon L110 ??? anyone?

10:29 am - Tuesday, May 11, 2010

#31 Agac

^
from reading A LOT of reviews the main differences between the two are (except the most obvious MP, and zoom):

Nikon - it is basically all automatic. A point-and-shoot in a bulkier body with lots of zoom and HD video. Perfect for those who likes simplicity and hates reading the manual. Great quality of pictures and videos.

Fuji - opposite of Nikon. It can be automatic OR manual. But i also heard that you get better results if you take pictures with manual settings. So you really need to read the user's manual for this one. It's exactly a mini-SLR. With lots of little bits of an actual DSLR. As for picture and video quality, if Nikon's picture quality is a Level 4, Fuji's is Level 3. And if Nikon's HD vid is Level 5, Fuji's is Level 3.

Hope that helps. those are from reading many reviews over the month. I don't really own both cameras.

Hi there just wondering what i am doing wrong, I cant seem to get a clean picture when i have the camera zoomed. Its always blurry......also alot of the pictures i take inside are very yellow.

Any help would be great

3:03 pm - Saturday, June 5, 2010

#40 Koushik Roy

@ jackie
while zooming fully its natural to have shaky pictures as the sensor of the camera have to catch images of a larger distance.so the exposure time increases.All you have to do is just try to hold the camera firmly without shaking mutch otherwise use a tripod.
When you are taking indoor images just change the white balance to fluorescent.

I've had this camera for a few weeks now, and I love it! I ordered the red one, and it was worth the wait, because the camera itself looks very attractive and fun. The start up time is very fast, and the zoom is incredible! I cannot get over how far it can zoom in without loosing image quality! Also, it has a really cool feature that will detect any faces and focus on them. Overall I love this camera!

So in your opinion if I am taking family outing pictures of children, activities etc. The best camera to go with is Nikon L110 versus the CanonSX120. I am having a hard time trying to decide. I definitely want something to give more zoom in, we live by a lake and when the kids are out in the water, on tubes, rafts or whatever I want to zoom in and get their faces. Help!

Theresa go to the camera shop and testdrive the canon and the nikon and then deside. the l110 is a lazy person camera, like me everything works with the screen.

As i saw in some pics of other people, the sunlight is over xposed..is it the fault of the cam or users?

I think it is the fault of the users as they were might b unable to balance d exposure....

For those asking about the image stabilization and getting blurry pictures on the L110: Be sure you have both the 'anti-shake' AND 'motion detection' stabilization on (There are icons on the screen that show one or both of these if they're on). Then when you want to shoot, press the shutter button halfway down to pre-focus, and that is where the image stabilization will kick in. And it is VERY GOOD regardless of zoom distance.

Hi All,
I bought this camera 2 days back. I have tested nearly all the settings, but have a concern. That most of the pictures are hazy. Most of the pictures i have taken or my friend has taken are not still. If anyone just walks slowly in the frame, the person looks hazy. I have used Kodak low priced camera's earlier but did not found these type of problem. Please advice.

Thanks arya,,

but ive already compared the pictures ive clicked from Nikon l110 and sony cybershot h55.... there was a lot of difference and i finally bought SONY CYBERSHOT H55..

SONY has an amazing picture quality and even with Panorama view which is really awesome.

Just an advice to all please do compare pictures on PC or laptop before purchasing any dg cam.

I used both camera.Canon sx 120 is very suitable for a travel fotographer,it has manual controls and priority mods and can keep in the shirt pocket good picture quality but video is not better than nikon L110. nikon has long zoom and wide range more than canon (canon 36-360 nikon 28-420)canon power only 2 AA cells and nikon 4AA cells so u dont have to chage the battery always.dont expect more details in the video mode in still cameras .if u want quality video use sony hc series video cameras. video quality is good more than canon in nikon L110 .what is your need .both are good cameras in each aspects.choose yourself.my opinion is canon sx 120 because i have carry always in my pocket like my third eye powershot canon A75.u u can see my creations in

This will be my last post inre the junk they call CoolPix L110. I havent had the camera one month,and the memory card reader has failed , ergo, I cant take any pictures, cause the camera wont save them to the memory card. Best Buy has a policy that any and all exchanges must be done within 14 days. Suffice it to say, I am real pissed with both Nikon's dollar store card reader and Best Buy's policy. The Camera has been sent to Tx for "evaluation". If I am lucky..this matter will be resolved by aug 7th, 2010. Hope you all have better luck with your CoolPix cameras...I am going back to my Minolta 35mm.

hi Sid,

Even i was so damn confused between L110 and sony H55 but once i visited and compared both the cams by getting live images tranferred on pc then i got to know that Sony h55 is the best if u want it has 14megapixel and 10x zoom with panorama view....

@siddharth
dont go for sx120is as per ur reqrments...
1. 120is is not wide angle.
2. bad image quality.
3. inferior LCD display having only 230k dots.it wld create a big nuisance in outdoor shooting.

hi Sid,,,

Sorry but ive no picx to upload yet... and yea i bought it frm Croma New Delhi Rajouri for Rs.14700... Its better if you click pictures urself to compare and ask em to upload it on PC or laptop. Well to be honest i compared both the cams and you can check cnet reviews also over here and some picture album as well.

@siddharth

look,flickr/orkut allows a image of resolution 500 X 375(now it has been increased to 640 X 480 ) to show.If I wld hav uploaded the bigger they wld downgrade it using their own algorithm.But i instead do it of my own and then post.
got it?
