Nikon is launching a new AA-powered superzoom camera, the Nikon Coolpix L110 with a 15x zoom Nikkor lens and 720p HD movie recording with stereo sound. Successor to the L100 we reviewed last year, the Nikon Coolpix L110 boasts a 12.1-megapixel imager, a 28-420mm equivalent zoom lens with vibration reduction (VR) and a three-inch LCD monitor with anti-reflection coating and a resolution of 460,000 dots. Available from mid February in a choice of black or red, the Nikon Coolpix L110 is priced at £199.99/ €240.00 / $279.95.

Nikon Press Release

An impressive all-rounder, the COOLPIX L110

The COOLPIX L110 combines leading technology with ease of use to reliably capture those important moments. The wide angle 15x zoom NIKKOR lens gives outstanding precision and sharp resolution and it gives the freedom to choose between capturing beautiful stills or great HD movies in stereo sound, all conveniently viewed on the large 7.5 cm (3 inch) high-resolution LCD monitor. To add to that it has 12.1 megapixels, five anti-blur functions, an ergonomic grip, 1 cm macro and 15 scene modes to make sure your pictures turn out the way you envisage. The power-efficient COOLPIX L110 can shoot more pictures than most digital cameras using AA batteries so you don’t have to worry about running out of power– whether you’re at home or travelling abroad.

Highlights of the COOLPIX L110 include:

·      12.1 Megapixels and a 15x Optical Zoom-NIKKOR Glass Lens (28mm wide-angle to 420mm super-telephoto)
·      3.0-inch high-resolution HVGA (460,000-dot) Clear Color Display with anti-reflection coating
·      HD movies (720p) with Stereo Sound and Sports Continuous Shooting
·      AA-battery power
·      Available in February 2010 for $279.95 in Black or Red

Please tell me that as L110 has less manual control does it mean that it is not for those who want to learn the photography. Means what is the scope for creativity in L110.

Optics with Nikon are superb as with Leica. But as with any point a shoot camera, one cant over ride the F stop or shutter speed settings..thats where the L110 falls short. It is good at what it does, if the memory card reader doesnt fail..Being creative with this camera is akin to learning to drive a car, but not learning to drive a manual stick shift...some of the joy is lost...
The pics can be played with froma computer program

Can i mess around with the shutter speed on the nikon L110?. for light painting etc.

11:11 am - Tuesday, August 17, 2010

#107 A Reams, DDS

To view your last snaps fast, you must have a faster memory card such as the scan disk Ultra series, 8 gbs or higher.Pray that your memory card reader doesnt fail, too.
All apetures and shutter speeds are controlled by the chip in the camera...these can be varied in the camera mode only within the parameters of the camera...ie..smart portrait, scenery etc etc.
This camera is a point and shoot...period.

Okay, so like a lot of people here, I'm stuck between the L110 and the sx120is... Personally I think the l110 looks better but my requirements are:
- not blurry
- fast/ adjustable shutter speed
- able to wear on neck strap
- lots of scene modes

please help???

@iscream--
in L110 u cant adjust shutter speed manually.i agree L110 looks awsum.
I was about to purchase L110 untill i had an eye on SONY DSC-H55...
Sony H55 its just awsum,u can manually adjust shutter speed in H55,its 14.1 Megapixels..
I hav heard that in order to take clear photos from L110,u must have steady hands, but thats not the case with Sony H55..
Using sony H55 u can get crisp clear pictures without steady hands...

Now talking about Canon SX120 IS,its good camera but its old,it does not hav HD video,+ it looks weird..

U can check pics taken from my Sony H55.Here's the link

http://www.flickr.com/photos/52313334@N05/

And H55 is a pocket camera..i agree H55 dosent look as good as L110,
but image clasrity is wat matters..

MY ADVICE-GO FOR SONY H55...
take care..

#111 iscream

@Siddharth

thank you for your advice!

just wondering: even if I can't adjust the shutter speed on the L110, does it have really slow shutter speed? Or is it still pretty quick?

1:33 pm - Tuesday, August 24, 2010

#112 @iscream

as u wish..

the pics from L110 are also gud,u can check flickr and search "nikon L110" and u would get pics taken from L110..
but i suggest, dont go by looks, its image quality that matters....
and if u hav budget of 20k,then go for canon SX20 IS...
TAKE CARE BUDDY....

NIKON Coolpix L110 :: Superb Quality 10/10.

Its much better than what i expected.
It has got features of both Compact point & shoot cameras & SLR cameras. It has got great sensor.

If you are looking to decide btwn CANON SX 120 IS & NIKON Coolpix L110, Blindly go for it. Though you might have to pay extra bux, But its worth the price.

Though Nikon L110 has one critical issue: "YOU CANT RESIST IT" smile

Hi, I'm using Nikkon L110 for last 2/3 months and I'm nearly satisfied with it. The positives i found are as bellow:
1. Image quality
2. Macro Image mode
3. The LCD
4. The zoom & wide angle....

But I have faced problem while shooting indoor shots. They are blur. Also pics taken in yellow lights, let's say in shopping malls or under a high power street light are not clear enough, in short the images are very poor. So can anyone please suggest me how to capture these....

5:24 am - Saturday, September 18, 2010

#119 Arya

@ Debbie and Kaushik Mazumdar,

I have also faced the same problem for first few days but after that I have figured it out...Actually the problem with user(mostly).

Reason:
When the light is not enough in the lens, the images are not good. (Think about your eyes.) we need to pass a decent amount of light to the lens, so adjust the Exposure.

Solution:
*First set the ISO in Auto.
*Then test same pics with different Exposure Compensation(button just right of the 'OK').
And after few shots you will get what best for you in the given light.

*For day use it's better to keep it at -0.7 to -1.0 and
night (without flash) keep it between +0.3 to +1.0.
night (with flash) keep it between -0.3 to +0.7(depending on the object distance).
At last for best results Practice it, Practice it and more Practice it....Send some good snaps as well. smile

Bought it a couple of weeks back from Nehru Place for 13.2K from jingle zone, nehru place. I bought for my honeymoon and i like it very much. Everyone else liked the camera as well, and wanted to buy the same. It gives good pictures in good light and in poor light if the flash is used it gives good pics as well. Highly recommended!! People buying in India make sure that you get the 4Gb card and recargeable battery and charger with it, as my dealer told me some dealers sell it cheaper because they don't provide the card and battery set that comes bundeled with camera and sell it separately.

I m usin sony H55 n m enjoying it..nikon L110 is also gud i guess coz i have used it couple of times n it gives gud clear images..but its not pocket sized while sony h55 is pocket sized...n nikon l100 looks awsum..but dnt go by looks...canon sx120is is an old model,it gives crisp clear pics, but it lacks latest features..better remove it from the list.n no idea about nikon s8000..
my suggestion,choose sumthng between sony h55 n nikon L110.
sony h55 is not good for extreme macro shots while nikon L110 is very good for it.
dats d only thng i found gud in L110 compared to h55..
u urself compare the cameras..go to some big shops like croma etc. etc.there they have demo cameras, test the cams der..n also ask their opinions to the respecive person there..
make the best choice as per ur demands dude..take care.
enjoy..

Hi Arya
To get the night time photos i put my camera on night mode using the flash option thats flashes and stops red eye and make sure your not taking the photo into the light but take the image with the light facing the object. How i learnt was just playing around with all the settings and flash modes.

Hi Matt,

Thanks for the response. I'll try this.

But my main problem is with pictures taken in room with common fluorescent lights. That time most of the pictures get distorted....but few day's back I have taken some pics with ISO 200 and not using the flash, they were somewhat good...but other pictures are very bad....even if the object(person) move a little bit from their position the image get blur. Please help.

First i want to say for all the people want anything electronic please do your job and do your reasearch in the internet before buy anything and when i mean that is not to go to the reviews don get me wrong that is good and healthy but dont decide because a review decide because de features and tech specs of the electronic thing that you want to buy find the compannys that dedicate to test all and do good review and the last decition is on you because you will be happy with something you like and want ok. so dont decide for someone else decide for you.

thanks and take care

I got the Nikon Coolpix L110 from my Wife and I thought it was going to be a Great Camera for our needs, but I WAS WRONG!!! This camera take Blurry Picture after Blurry Picture, I was going to buy a Canon Rebel and now I wish we had as this Coolpix is more like a Crapix camera! I wouldnt advise anyone to buy this camera as it isnt anywhere as good as it should be....

Hi Guys,

I got fade up with blurry pictures of Nikon L110. I read a lot many blogs and tried all the settings. Even the basic cameras are far better than L110, atleast can take clear and not blurry photos.

I even visited Nikon center in Bangalore once, but they also could not help me. I asked a few of my friends who are professional photographer, but they also could not do anything.

Now after reading all feedback and users problem on various sites, I think the Blurry photos is a real problem and issue with this model. And instead of just wasting time, we all can make a small forum to contact Nikon India.

I have tried everything suggested in this forum, the bottom line is: L110 is a great camera provided everything (lighting, subject still, zoom level not too much) is perfect.

Otherwise it performs really badly. Pictures are blurred, shaken. You are forced to use flash even in situations that doesn't warrant it.

Next time I will get a Sony.
