Nikon continue to update/develop their flagship compact (I have the P7100) with welcome refinements. The important aspects are that the comera delivers excellent results and is enjoyable to use.

A small point for the publisher, the main photo of the camera at the top of the page seems to be of the previous (P7700) model, so too the first three of the sequence, why cut corners like that?

No, these pictures all show the P7800. The P7700 looked somewhat different because of the lack of an EVF, see e.g. here: http://www.photographyblog.com/reviews/nikon_coolpix_p7700_review/product_images/

Zoltan,

If you look at the main (headline) picture, for example, at the very top of this page you will see that it does not have the EVF of the P7800 - the EVF raises the outline a little, there is no raised outline.

I think it's probably the angle that I was holding the P7800 at, which has effectively hidden the EVF when viewed from the front in those first three shots.

OK, you must know what you've done, I withdraw my comments and apologise for them.

You can tell the difference between the two from the fact that the Quick Menu Dial has been removed from the P7800 to make room for the EVF.

Nikon gives and Nikon takes away. Looks like we lost the quick menu dial...
I own a P7700. Great camera, but with some mild annoyances. An EVF was not on the top of my list. It was not on the list of things to change, period
Is the P7800 any faster processing RAW images? Did they put contrast detect AF on the sensor? Did they update the MyMenu to incluse anything you want? Did they change the playback mode so that you can browse through your images WHILE ZOOMED IN? Did they move the tripod mount away from the battery/SD-card compartment door? Did the make the screen touch sensitive? Did they add WiFi?

Filter threads? Does the P7800 take filters directly onto the lens barrel? Didn't the P7700 take 40.5mm filters? Thanks.

@jpmccormac
The P7700 takes 40.5 mm filters directly onto the lens barrel. As far as I can tell from the photos above the filter thread seems to be there on the P7800.

p 7700 is very nice camera with actualy good store prices , this model p 7800 is clone of p 7700 , identical camera only with ugly viewfinder.
Ugly,lousy,horrid viewfinder in compact cameras = ugliness,spoiling the appearance of the camera.
