Nikon D200 vs Canon EOS 30D Review at Complete Digital Photography
Complete Digital Photography have published a comparative review of the new Nikon D200 and Canon EOS 30D digital SLR cameras.
“If you’re hoping to find a single characteristic that will make your decision for you, performance is not going to be it. Both cameras power up seemingly instantly, wake from sleep just as quickly, offer speedy burst rates, and excellent file write and read times. If you really want to ensure maximum performance from either camera, it’s worth investing in speedier flash cards, as these will make a difference. Overall, though, you’ll find both cameras very responsive.”

Huh,I will never go for any Nikon camera now...I had been a Nikon user & still using nikon d100,i had Nikon fm10 as well...fm10 is nice but i feel digital cameras from nikon are not so good as Canon...either nikon felt overconfident or watever the reason...canon has swept the digital slr market...cameras are really good, speedy & quality is excellent...keep it up canon,i am going to purchase canon 5d soon....& Nikon ...shud packup now...they are too old for the competition now...good luck canon...

Nikon digital SLR cameras? never buy except their dx series....they have low light problems...very slow cameras...obselete products.....nonsence company now...though i was fan of Nikon...but in Digital slr market Canon is ultimate....u will feel confident & happpy using canon digital slrs...but canon also need to check the noise on pix during low lighting conditions(its not the worst like nikon but still needs improvement)....but canon is the best in Digital slr market....hats off to canon....u r on the driving seat now in digital slrs.....

Nikon Optics are much better than canon, I´m a Nikon D2Xs user and I´m proud of it.
My D2Xs have no problems with low light.
I think its only a preference question.
But I Prefer Nikon for several reasons...

Nikon doesn't have superior optics. That's an absurd statement. Some Canon lenses are better than Nikon, some Nikon lenses better than Canon.
If Nikon just universally made better glass - do you think anyone would be shooting Canon? Of course not. Canon's L-Series glass is legendary. And optically, I don't think even Nikon's best glass can touch the best prime Canon lenses (think the 100mm, the 85's, the fast normals).

Grow up. You sound like children. If you spent as much time taking pictures as you spend bitching about glass quality in a camera lens (I’m sure you have the molecular background) to back up your "legendary" comment, you would be a better photographer. Next you'll go on about the superior picture quality of a 10mp to an 8.2mp. Here's some free advice....turn off your computer, read a book and get educated in the area of what your speaking about. It all boils down to a personal preference....you like apples? or apples?
There both playing you in a marketing game.

Which is the best, Canon or Nikon? Probably Canon. I was a press photographer on a provisional evening newspaper, using Canon EOS1D's. The snappers on our sister morning paper were equiped with Nikons'. The Canon always won in low light conditions, being fitted with a far superior light meter. Canon have a brilliant marketing ploy; All their fast long lenses; i.e.70mm-200mm zoom, 300mm, 400mm are coloure white, next time your watch a sporting event, try spotting the colour of the lenses being used by the sports photographers, which will give some idea the choice the pros make. However for the average amateur, it's down to personal preference, of course it may by down to already owning a collection of lenses which will determine which camera body you buy.
