Nikon PictureProject Plug-insNikon Press Release

Three new optional PictureProject Plug-ins expand Nikon PictureProject software capability for even greater shooting, editing and sharing options when using Nikon digital cameras

PictureProject COOLPIX Remote Control, nik Color Efex Pro 2.0 Express Edition and PictureProject DVD Show.

TOKYO — Nikon Corporation is pleased to announce the introduction of three optional Plug-ins for expanded functionality. Nikon’s exclusive PictureProject software is bundled with every Nikon digital camera and Nikon Capture software is purchased separately. PictureProject COOLPIX Remote Control Plug-in enables users to operate the COOLPIX 8400 and COOLPIX 8800 cameras remotely from a computer. The nik Color Efex Pro 2.0 Express Edition, compatible with Nikon’s PictureProject and Capture software provides users a host of highly creative visual effects. PictureProject DVD Show allows automatic creation of advanced videos made from still images and movie clips that are combined with music and special effects, then saved on a recordable CD or DVD.

PictureProject COOLPIX Remote Control
Remote camera control, a function also incorporated in Nikon Capture 4 software to remotely control the popular D70 and other Nikon digital SLR models, has earned wide acclaim among professionals for its advanced and convenient remote control operation. PictureProject COOLPIX Remote Control has been developed to offer a similar solution for the COOLPIX 8400 and 8800; remote camera operation can enable changing camera settings via computer, particularly useful when you can’t access the camera’s controls or if the camera is in an inaccessible remote location. Those involved in nature photography, studio work, or scientific and industrial photography will recognize the advantages of such remote control. COOLPIX Remote Control can be used on any computer (Mac and PC) that is equipped with PictureProject 1.1 or later, for control of COOLPIX 8400 and 8800. Key settings and shooting functions can be controlled remotely from the computer, including settings for the AF Mode, Flash Mode, image size and quality, as well as control over zoom operation and the shutter release. With COOLPIX Remote Control, images taken remotely can be saved directly to the computer’s hard disk drive; there is no need for concern about changing the camera’s CompactFlashTM memory card during remote shooting. Because of the unique operation of COOLPIX cameras, COOLPIX Remote Control is equipped with real-time preview monitoring on your computer, which improves workflow efficiency.

As a PictureProject Plug-in, the COOLPIX Remote Control System can also take advantage of the PictureProject Image Organizing Solution; with just a click, you can designate that the transferred image will be added to a Collection!

Even difficult operations can be performed at the click of a single button, with the selection of twenty-four different styles automatically handling the necessary editing. The software even automatically recognizes human figures in the pictures or movie clips to distinguish relevant contents to create a new sequence of images in a selected style. I contacted Nikon directly about this and after many mixed signals, the end result is that it has not been released yet, and they cannot provide a date for the release (although at least one person indicated it should be imminent). Their only advice was to keep checking back at their web site. They also confirmed that it will be something we are going to have to pay for.

I have a question about pictureproject1.1 I purchased a Nikon 7900 on line and it arrived with PP1.1. It installs ArcSuite easily, but will not install pictureproject. I've been shuttled back and forth between on-line dealer and Nikon, who says it is a camera made in China and PP won't work. Dealer says call Nikon. Any ideas? I see the PP info on the disk, but can't open or run it. Write me at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) Thanks.

Well I finally got my hands on the Coolpix remote control software and have to say that I am deeply disappointed. This software dumbs down the 8800 to nothing more than a point and shoot camera. Now, I don't know about anybody else, but I would think that anyone who is interested in nature, scientific, or even studio photography would require the ability to control shutter speed and aperture at the very least, in other words simple point and shoot functionality would not be sufficient. With the 8800 connected to this software you can control neither, not even directly from the camera's controls. I have to wonder who the target demographic was for this software as I can't think of anyone who is interested in point and shoot functionality ever dreaming of controlling it remotely from a computer and conversely anyone who is interested in controlling the camera from a computer being satisfied with simple point and shoot controls. Anyway, enough of my rant, I just needed to vent someplace. Thanks for reading.

Can you tell me where you found the coolpix remote control software? I've downloaded the 30 day trial version, but need to buy the CD version with key activation code. I'm in the UK.

I don't think you need a CD, the key is available here: http://www.nikonmall.com/product.asp?sku=2786093
You end up with a string of numbers that you simply enter into the software. Would you mind telling me what you plan on using this for? I still feel that Nikon has scamed me out of $50 for a product that doesn't do anything of value. Regards.

Thanks for that - I'll check it out. I want to control the camera at the top of a 70 foot mast for low level aerial photography. So far so good, I'm hoping to use a series of active USB repeaters for the camera functions and a separate pan/tilt controller. As you say - more camera control would have been nice, but it will do for now.

Follow up.....Hi Steve, I tried to buy the code but Nikon Mall told me that I had to buy the software on disc and code comes with it. However, they won't ship outside of the U.S. So I either have to wait ages for a U.K. release or get someone in the states to order it from Nikon Mall and send it on to me - are you interested? Let me know and I can arrange to get payment to you!
I've only got 4 days of my trial version left.
Regards, Vilis.

Hi Amrat,
I had the same problem obtaining this item as Nikon UK don't have this software for sale yet and can't give a release date.
I managed to buy it through http://www.robertsimaging.com (based in Indianapolis USA) and the product code is NIK-00540A.
If you're in the US it will cost around $40, but if like me you're in the UK, it can get pricey by the time you add carriage and import duty etc.
Hope this helps.
Vilis.

I have a Coolpix with the Picture Project software supplied with the camera. I have been trying to burn some pictures onto Cd, a total of 424 pictures and a total of 650 odd Mb, without success. I then went onto 4Gb Cd's, also without success. When I try to burn a CD after a couple of minutes a window shows up having stopped the burn and requesting more disc space. This of course has wrecked the CD which can now no longer be used. I have been though 5 CD's. What can I do?? Please help.

I have the Picture Project DVD show I legally purchased to upgrade the Picture Project that came with my Nikon D70s. The sleeve the CD is in is either the wrong sleeve or something is wrong with my disk. When it asked for my key, I plug in the number on the back of the sleeve which is on a sticker and it say it is not the right key. Where can I get a key for the CD or where can I call to verify the key. I purchased it through Nikon and they supposedly do not have the reords to be certain I purchased it.
