Nikon to Introduce New Lens Mount?

Mark Goldstein | Digital SLR Cameras | June 16, 2003 | 3 Comments

Imaging Resource are reporting some news that could drastically change the DSLR market-place. The latest Contaxinfo.com newsletter has spilled the beans on a new lens mount system from Nikon which will accomodate full-frame CCDs. This is obviously still unconfirmed rumour which will apparently happen “later this year”, so we’ll just have to wait and see…

Sounds kind of goofy. Is there a reason they need to enlarge their mount? Canon does just fine with their EF mount and the EOS-1Ds. Unless Nikon are out to compete against medium format...

This does not make much sense. Nikon said they would standardise on the current chip size. And Kodak managed to produce a FF DSLR with the current mount. While it is far from perfect, it has nothing to do with the mount itself.

Besides resolution, the advantage of FF DLSRs is a matching field of view compared to film SLRs. Changing the mount negates that advantage!
