Nikon UK Press Release

Nikon is pleased to announce new software suite components, Nikon Transfer and ViewNX which are available for download from the Customer Support section of the Nikon UK web site.

Nikon Transfer is a download utility which can be used in any workflow and allows images to be simultaneously downloaded to two locations, such as the computer and external hard drive. It also offers the ability to embed IPTC and XMP data containing details of the copyright keywords or other useful text often used for cataloguing images.

Nikon’s latest image viewing software, ViewNX, uses a file browser to ensure quick access to images for instant viewing.  Based on the interface of Capture NX, ViewNX offers familiar features, such as the ability to sort images by labels. ViewNX incorporates quick adjustment tools for NEF(RAW) files allowing exposure and white balance adjustments to be made quickly to multiple images. The convert file option allows NEF(RAW) images to be exported as JPEG, 8bit TIF or 16bit TIF.

ViewNX is also supplied with the Picture Control utility which allows the Picture Control functions of the recently announced D3 and D300 to be edited. The Picture Control utility allows users to create custom Picture Controls which can be uploaded to the D3 and D300 cameras. ViewNX then enables Nikon Picture Controls or the user’s own custom Picture Controls to be applied to NEF(RAW) files from existing cameras.

To access the new software downloads users must have an account with the European support centre and must have registered a valid digital product.

Hi, if this is the wrong place to ask, sorry. Having just purchased a Nikon D40 I was disappointed to see that my always used imagine softwear PSP8 could not display the Nikon thumbnails as full screen images (just blow the thumbnail to full screen). I always use JPEGS as image format so this .NEF is a format I do not want to use. The simple question is how do I get this .NEF thumbnail into full screen JPEG so PSP8 can work with the image file?

Regards
Kevin
