Nikon’s Profits Rise

Mark Goldstein | Global | August 14, 2004 | 1 Comments

Nikon has enjoyed a rise in profits during the last financial quarter, recording a group net profit of 1.72 billion yen ($15.54 million) in the three months to June 30, compared with a 69 million yen profit in the same quarter last year. This is largely due to increased sales of equipment used to make chips and liquid crystal displays, with sales of the D70 helping out:

“But earnings at Nikon, the world’s sixth best-selling digital camera brand last year after Sony, Canon, Olympus, Eastman Kodak and Fuji Photo Film Co. Ltd., have been supported by brisk sales of a high-end model launched in March.

Called the “D70,” Nikon’s lowest priced digital single-lens reflex (SLR) camera has been a hit with professional photographers and serious amateurs. Canon’s “EOS Kiss” model is the only other digital SLR available for around $1,000.”
