Olympus Reports 50%+ Profit Drop

Olympus have just announced a significant drop in profits during the first half of the current financial year, blaming lower digital camera prices for the 57% decrease in net income. (found via Digital Photography Blog

“The average price for digital cameras fell 18 percent during the second half, Hideo Yamada, an Olympus managing director, said at a news conference in Tokyo. Olympus last month lowered its digital camera shipment forecast for this business year to 9.5 million units from previous estimate of 11 million.”
