Olympus Stylus 710 Review at DigitalCameraReview

Olympus mju 700DigitalCameraReview have the first review of the new Olympus Stylus 710 (also known as the mju 700 in Europe), a 7.1 megapixel camera with 3x zoom, 2.5 inch LCD and a weatherproof body.

“The Stylus 710 is actually pretty tiny, regardless of how it looks in pictures. It’s easily pocketable and I have no worries about damaging the camera while it rides in a shirt or pants pocket. The metal body has 24K gold plating covered with a platinum alloy that resists scratches. It’s a very sturdy camera, as is expected from a Stylus camera. I found the camera hard to hold—it just never felt “at rest” in my hand. I think the biggest contributor to my discomfort was that it always felt like it would just slip out of my hand. There was no grip or physical feature of the camera that solidified my grip. This may not be an issue for everyone so, as always, try it out before you buy.”

Three weeks ago we purchased the Olympus 710 tried it for a week and it was ok. The pictures were not quite as clear as my old Kodak Easy Share LS 443 at 4.0 pixels, but it was smaller so we decided to keep it and take it on vacation to Alaska traveling from Anchorage to Denali Park and then up to Fairbanks by train.

We got to Anchorage, Alaska and when the waiter tried to take a picture, the flash was broken.

I contacted Olympus and they tried to reset the camera, however the flash was defective. They would not replace it so therefore we were limited on personal indoor shots for the rest of the trip.

I am returning the camera and paying the extra money to purchase a Cannon. 6 pixels versus 7.1 pixels, unless you are printing very large pictures, it won’t matter. And Cannon has better reviews. What is a hundred dollars extra?

The Olympus has a neat help screen and it is convenient to carry.

I just think because we had a brand new camera and we cannot get to the store where we purchased their product that customer service would have tried to solve the problem more aggressively. The Customer service supervisor just basically, didn’t care.

I would not recommend this product or company.
