OptimumCS-Pro

The OptimumCS-Pro iPhone app is an optimum camera settings tool for photographers, cinematographers and videographers. Designed for any kind of photography where maximum sharpness over a large depth of field is required, OptimumCS determines the camera settings that will result in the sharpest photographs “the laws of physics will allow”, developer George Douvos says. This approach is quite different from practices based on the international depth of field standard, which have the goal of finding the largest aperture that will provide acceptable sharpness on relatively small prints. Additions versus the original OptimumCS application include several different distance scales, emphasising near or far distances, circles of confusion for film sizes up to 8x10”, and optimum sharpness data for longer focal lengths. OptimumCS-Pro is available now on iTunes for $3.99.

Introducing OptimumCS-Pro: The Optimum Camera Settings Tool for Imaging Professionals Seeking Maximum Image Sharpness

Melbourne, Australia — June 1, 2011 — OptimumCS-Pro, the Optimum Camera Settings tool for imaging professionals, is available now on iPhone and iPod Touch.

While OptimumCS, the app that introduced the optimum camera settings approach, was designed for photographers, OptimumCS-Pro is for all imaging professionals — for photographers, cinematographers and videographers.

In most imaging work, OptimumCS-Pro offers the fastest, most intuitive and most effective way to work with depth of field. And it’s not a depth of field calculator. The desired depth of field is, in fact, an input: The user sets it in OptimumCS-Pro and the app instantly displays the focus distance and aperture that minimise the combined effects of defocus blur and diffraction, for the sharpest image across the desired depth of field that the laws of physics will allow (and therefore, in all cases, sharper than what is achieved via traditional practice).

Optimum camera settings are device independent, so OptimumCS-Pro is universally applicable.

OptimumCS-Pro displays image sharpness information, so the user knows how sharp the image will be before it’s shot. Also included is data on shooting at other than optimal settings. Can’t shoot at the optimum aperture, because, for example, you need a faster shutter speed afforded by a wider aperture? You’ll know exactly what the effect of your decisions will be.

OptimumCS-Pro retains the elegant, uncluttered interface of OptimumCS and adds options to configure that interface to better meet individual needs:
* Several different distance scales, emphasising near or far distances, are available, as is one for use with Hansma’s focus shift method in large format photography.
* Information on image sharpness can be displayed in terms of blur spot diameter (akin to circle of confusion, but with the effects of diffraction included) or in line pairs per mm.
* Film/sensor sizes all the way up to 8x10 inch are accommodated, as are longer focal lengths.

OptimumCS-Pro’s intuitive operation and instant results are perfect for creative professionals who don’t want their tools to get in the way of their work or their art.

OptimumCS-Pro is available now from Apple’s App Store.
