Panasonic DMC-FZ20 Review at PCMagazine

Mark Goldstein | Digital Compact Cameras | February 12, 2005 | 1 Comments

Panasonic DMC-FZ20PCMagazine have reviewed the Panasonic DMC-FZ20 digital camera, which has a 12x optical zoom lens from Leica.

“Larger than most superzooms, Panasonic’s top-of-the-line Lumix DMC-FZ20 is similar in size and look to a digital SLR. It combines very good image quality with top-notch specs and features. It isn’t perfect, but if we could take only one camera with us on vacation, it would be high on our list. With its impressive zoom lens and other capabilities, there are few scenes this camera couldn’t handle with aplomb.”

I bought this primarily to replace a Canon
T-90 w/ Vivitar Series 1 28-105 2.8 zoom. I was having to use Fuji 1600 ISO on available
light dance performances. The film/lense combination was hard to use due to manual focus. The salesman said the FZ20 could handle the low light. It can't.(typical tell them anything to make the sale) Way too much noise at 400 ISO. So, I guess for low light I will still use my Canon FD set up and for everything else the Panasonic. I have read other reviews that said pretty much the same thing. (After the purchase of course) They still can't get everything at this price point. Other than the low light issue this camera does handle nice and the lense is pretty amazing.
