Panasonic has issued firmware updates for its Lumix DMC-G3 and GF3 compact system cameras. Version 1.2 (for both models) optimises the operation of regular Four Thirds lenses when mounted to these cameras via the appropriate adapter. According to the Release notes on this firmware, its actually to add the needed functionality to allow the X-series lens to work properly, adding functions like showing focal length, step zoom, etc.

your right, they don't have release notes on their site for 1.2, but they do mention its for what you say it is.
