Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 Review

Mark Goldstein | Digital Compact Cameras | March 17, 2008 | 4 Comments

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5CameraLabs have reviewed the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5, a 9 megapixel update of Panasonic’s best-selling camera ever, the TZ3.

“The lack of manual control can be annoying for enthusiasts, and the performance at higher sensitivities is, like most compacts, nothing to be proud of. But these are about the only real downsides to the TZ5. So if you’re happy to leave your creativity to various scene presets and limit the sensitivity to 100 or 200 ISO then you’ll enjoy some great-looking photos.”

i was not impressed with this camera - did not like the noise the lens makes when zooming in and out, and vertical lines appear on the screen while videoing, and they also show on playback. Poor for the £249 price i paid.

Two things about the TZ5 to get perfect HD videos: 1) Keep your left finger off the microphone. 2) Turn OFF the Continuous Autofocus.

heather:

this is NOT a video camera. It's just nice of Panny to put in that feature of a mega-zoom compact digital camera. If you want video, with zooming capabilities, then get a video camera.

For this price, there is no better camera out there. This is the best all-rounder ever produced. Fantastic zoom range, great lens, and a nice overall package for a really good price. I really see no faults for a full automatic camera for general every day use and travel photos.

It's a camera, and it does video (excellent video), ergo it *is* a video camera. I would advise people to quit wasting money on separates unless they need a professional video shoot - the TZ5 will do all the video 95 percent of anyone wants.
