Panasonic Lumix FX100 Review at CNET

Mark Goldstein | Digital Compact Cameras | July 13, 2007 | 2 Comments

Panasonic Lumix FX100CNET have reviewed the Panasonic Lumix FX100, a 12.2 megapixel digital camera with a new 1/1.72-inch large CCD and 28mm wide-angle lens.

“Image quality is generally good, with sharp images, accurate-looking colors, a healthy amount of shadow detail, and consistently accurate white balance and exposures. However, noise remains one of Panasonic’s weakest points. Even at the camera’s lowest sensitivity setting of ISO 80, I saw noise in our test images. The noise is minimized in prints but is readily noticeable when viewing images at full size on computer monitors”

Typical CNET shooting from the hip in their camera reviews. What the CNET reviewer did not mention is the fact any camera image is going to show "noise" croped from 12MP resolution at low iso's. The idea behind this Panny is to capture mega pixels and then reduce the image by half or more as a way of capturing fine detail.

Another thing, CNET is so possessed with image stabilization that it omits the fact the Panny's have the best stabilizers in the industry.

My opinion is the FX100 will be better for fast action shots (car racing for example) and macro shots. The macro is very impressive and one of the best you can buy in a compact.

Panasonic did good with this camera and by adding packing the small sensor with so many photo sensors might not have been such a bad idea after all. Without full manual control is is strictly a everyday carry consumer camera to record events and things without having to lug around a heavy and expensive D$LR.

Forget cnet...it´s one of the sites that publish reviews that are nonsense.
I wonder how long they would live this thing.

Fact is that the FX100 is one of the most innovative cameras out yet, along Casio Z1200 and SONY W200.
Of course, after testing all 3 cams i decided to go with the FX100.
Cameras placed by me:
1.FX100
2.W200
3.Z1200
