Panasonic Lumix G HD

World Exclusive! The Panasonic Lumix G HD camera has been unveiled ahead of Photokina. Shown as an advanced prototype under glass, we were among the first journalists to see the Panasonic G HD, identical to the G1 except for added video capability. A small Record Video button has been added to the rear grip of the Lumix G HD, and a large mic/speaker on top of the camera. No specific details were given about the particular High Definition mode that will be employed. The Panasonic Lumix G HD will be launched in Spring 2009. Update: We’ve now added in-hand photos of the three prototype lenses planned for release sometime in 2009 - the 20mm pancake, 7-14mm wide-angle, and 14-140mm telephoto. Seeing these tiny lenses in the flesh, especially the 20mm pancake, really shows what the Micro Four Thirds system is capable of.

That is quite a lens. What I'm really hoping for are more radical designs of the camera body, so far G1 and HD have been really quite traditional. Smaller should be possible.

Yes, it's Micro Four Thirds. Just a mockup, so no samples I'm afraid. Exactly the same size as the G1. No indication was given by Panasonic about the video quality.

i noticed that the lenses no longer bear the name Leica but is changed to Lumix . could this mean that the two companies are no longer commercially associated ?

Lens names: Panasonic representatives commented at some point that they needed something more "consumer-friendly" in lenses for G1, I would imagine Leica wants to reserve their trademark to something more higher-end in lenses.

I have the panny g1 and it is quite a good piece of machinery. I REALLY wish that i would have waited! I new that they would be coming out with a g series with video. I just didn't think so soon!I cant wait to see the "HD" specs for it! If its 1080i @ atleast 30 frames per second. I will probably sell my g1 for the g1 hd with video! But right at this point in time. I will stay satisfied with my g1. Also i am anxiously awaiting the arrival of the new lenses!! A macro lens is needed here!

The Video Quality will be 1080p and will include live autofocus, manual focus, and zoom during filming. Cant't wait! In my opinion, this has a chance to own the D90.
