Ugh.

Look at the spottiness of the noise reduction - how can you describe that? Smudgy, spotty, grainy - just yuk.

AA, I would describe it as "LX1-like". :)

I only looked at a few images, but purple fringing seems well controlled.

No, not really - if you look at some of the texture and/or edging detail, it's much worse than the LX1.

Given, the LX1 has less resolution than the LX2.

But it's the manner in which the noise is handled in the LX2 - it seems to overcompensate the spottiness of the noise, and ends up smudging the detail. By detail, I mean clean edges and clearer textures.

And that's just from any of these middle-of-the-road sort of shots that were primarily shot on Auto.

Of course, I am looking at JPEGs, so it's worse, but the sharpness is definitely less on the LX2 shots.

So, I can assume that Mark used the picture quality settings set at the default (Std) setting?
There is a difference in quality by using different settings on the available modes.

AA, to be honest, I really did not look that closely, but I believe what
you're saying. I just hope we don't taint Mark's review too much, like
on Millionaire when the contestant says, "I think the answer is 'A' but
I would like to ask the audience." :)

Nick, you probably don't get Millionaire in Japan.

Sounds like that stupid show "Deal or No Deal" which we get!
The LX-2 works for me, for what I do, is it better than a LX-1, yes, in some ways, hopefully a firmware download will let us play, more precisely , with noise.

Gary, go to myafn.net to see what we are getting on the Armed Foces Network, a free satellite connect for active duty and retirees, even old ones! We get all the channels!

Thankfully it's nothing like Deal Or No Deal. It's more like an exciting
version of Jeopardy. If you get all the channels, you should definitely
get it.

Actually, Gary, I think they do get Millionaire in Japan - they have franchised it over there too.

Gary, sorry, I get all the AFN Channels, all 9 of them!
Satellite programing in Japan has eliminated FOX news, so there is no reason to watch it. Japanese programing is so childish and moronic that the weather is about all I watch daily there.
"The Unit", "The Closer" and "America's Next Top Model" for Miho, is about all we watch, without Sean Hannity I get real depressed!

"Japanese programing is so childish and moronic that the weather is about all I watch daily there."

That's funny - that's what the Brits say about American TV. All about who's got the bigger guns - i.e. dick or tits.

Funny!

AA, give me an e-mail address that I can send some Japanese stuff to, I can prove my point.. It's horrible!
I told my wife that if I'm ever hospitalized and have to stare at Japanese TV all day, then she has permission to terminate me!

#14 Required (how did you know?)

A truly heroic job making the fashionable idiocy of a permanent panorama format work beyond the buzz of a five-minute novelty. Really. In just a simple camera review, too. They don't deserve the effort. It doesn't even fit all theatrical movies, let alone all still photographs. Full marks Mark: England's answer to Jeff Bridges!
