PC Magazine Site of the Week!

Mark Goldstein | PhotographyBLOG | March 20, 2004 | 9 Comments

PC MagazineA sudden rise in traffic yesterday made me root around in my web traffic statistics to try and find out where all the extra visitors were coming from. It turns out that PhotographyBLOG has been nominated as Site of the Week by PC Magazine! They had these kind words to say amongst others:

“While the site offers reviews, photos, polls, contests, and forums, the most fascinating content for many photography buffs is likely to be the industry news, rumors, and announcements. On the day this review was written, PhotographyBlog’s new postings included announcements about one new camera, four new lenses, two new flashes, an increase in production for a popular camera, and links to new online reviews of three current cameras.”

I disagree... for me that stuff is boring, and I rarely click on those entries. I already have all the camera equipment I need, and what interests me the most are articles on how I can best use it and how to make great photos. I was reading the site frequently two or three months ago when you were monitoring various websites and posting links to useful photography articles. But it seems that now you are not posting nearly as many links to photography articles and have instead migrated to a format where you just post product announcements, etc. Personally I find that really disappointing.

new products are a current trend since there were two major trade shows recently (PMA, CeBIT). Mark really can't do much about it if everyone is dealing with new cameras rather than writing about photography.
Don't worry, your time will come. Between now and Photokina there's quite a gap that has to be filled. wink

expat98,

I don't think that I have posted fewer links to photography articles, but I have definitely been posting more stories about new products. Therefore it seems as though the balance of the site has changed slightly grin

As Mad@TT has said, this has been because of the recent trade shows and the flood of new product announcements, which a lot of people are interested in. The next big show is Photokina in September, so you may notice the balance shifting back towards what you enjoy most again.
