PC Pro Reviews 15 Inkjet Printers
PC Pro magazine have condusted a group test of 15 inkjet printers, ranging in price from the Dell J740 ( £51) to the Canon Bubble Jet i965 (£225). The Canon Bubble Jet i865 (pictured) was named the overall winner.
“Things have changed considerably since our last inkjets group test. The gap between great and not-so-great printers has narrowed to the point that you can now print excellent photos without spending more than £70.
This doesn’t bode well for the high-end ‘photo’ printers, which offer features like extra inks and direct printing to help justify their prices. HP’s Photosmart 7960, for instance, includes three cartridges for eight-ink printing and even incorporates a scanner so you can select which hard copies of photos you’d like from an index print. We’ll be examining whether such ideas are revolutionary or just expensive gimmicks.”

The problem (I believe) is that these "group tests" are aimed at the mainstream consumer who wants a do-it-all printer at a reasonable cost.
Obviously, all the printers tested do their jobs to an acceptable level for the mainstream user. But: Does the Canon do full bleed (A4+) using pigment (?) inks and would it stand up against a well setup Epson pro printer printing on archival quality paper? What about the longevity of the print?
I'm not sure that the "Pro-sumer" would read this artical with a serious view to buying a printer. They'd read sites like this one or DPForums or Ephotozine (as examples).
Happy New Year by the way!

I agree that the article is aimed at the mainstream user who's interested in a printer that can print both text and photos well, but it is a handy guide to what's available at the cheaper end of the market. Plus where else can you read 15 reviews in one place?
