The smc Pentax-DA 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 ED SDM is a new superzoom lens for Pentax’s K-mount digital cameras. This 15x zoom lens offers a quiet “supersonic drive” AF motor, a minimum focusing distance of 0.49m over the entire zoom range, a rounded diaphragm to produce a smoothl bokeh, and an optical formula that incorporates two extra-low dispersion (ED) elements. The smc Pentax-DA 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 ED SDM will be available from early November, priced at £699.99/$799.95.

PENTAX RICOH IMAGING UK, LTD is pleased to announce the launch of the smc PENTAX-DA 18-270mm F3.5-6.3 ED SDM interchangeable zoom lens, designed for exclusive use with PENTAX K-mount interchangeable-lens digital cameras.

This high-magnification zoom lens offers 15x zoom ratio to cover focal lengths from 27.5mm wide angle to 414mm super telephoto in the 35mm format. Its built-in supersonic AF driving mechanism offers both a smooth and quiet AF mode in a compact, lightweight body.

Its extraordinary wide angle-to-long-telephoto zoom coverage makes this lens extremely versatile, as it allows the user to effortlessly capture a wide variety of subjects, without needing to change lenses, ranging from landscape and portraiture to long-range sports photography. Its newly designed optics are key to achieving such wide zoom coverage in a compact, lightweight body.

The PENTAX-DA 18-270mm will be available from early November. RRP £699.99.

1. Supersonic AF motor (SDM)
Thanks to the incorporation of the PENTAX-original SDM autofocus system driven by a built-in supersonic motor, this zoom lens offers an exceptionally smooth and quiet autofocus mode. When mounted on an SDM-compatible PENTAX K-mount interchangeable-lens digital camera body,* the focus mode is automatically switched to SDM-assisted autofocusing to ensure flawless AF operation.

2. Exceptional image definition
Incorporating two extra-low dispersion (ED) elements in its optics, this zoom lens delivers bright, high-resolution images even at the edges, while effectively minimizing chromatic aberration.
