I don't quite get it. Why is this lens uni-focal? I would understand if that was a superwide-angle lens, but a telephoto? I know that the DOF on the Pentax dSLRs is deeper than on the 35mm cameras, but still, selective focus is one of the very basic elements of photographic composition...
Somebody, please, enlighten me!

In this context, the designation 'uni-focal' refers to the lens being a prime lens rather than a zoom. Some of the older photographers will recall that single focal length lenses were once referred to as uni-focal. Pentax descriptions are often 'Lost in Translation' phrases and this is a good example. As the depth of field markings on the lens reveal, this lens has a variable aperture range of F2.4-F22 and is a fixed 70 mm focal length lens (prime lens).

Thank you, John,
Now I get it! However, I am involved in photography for 35 years and I've never seen this kind of use for the word 'uni-focal'...

No problem Rob,
This lens should be a good one for portraits since it will be the equivalent of 105 (35mm equivalent) with a maximum aperture of 2.4. Also looks like it have a depth of field of about 12 or 15 feet to infinity at F22. I'd like to know what its close focus capabilities will be. Glad to see Pentax is focusing on these unique primes rather than trying to compete head-on with the Nikon or Canon zoom mass market.

Indeed, looks like a good choice for Pentax-using portrait shooters. Not overly bright, though...
