Photo-i Epson Perfection 4870 Scanner Review Completed

Mark Goldstein | Scanners | February 16, 2004 | 4 Comments

Epson Perfection 4870Photo-i have now completed their interactive, multi-page review of the new Epson Perfection 4870 flatbed scanner, which should be in stores very soon.

“For medium and large format scans the 4870 produced outstanding quality, certainly good enough for any professional photographer to use on their work. The 4870 is a much cheaper option than buying a dedicated medium format film scanner. I loved Digital ICE and it works a treat on both transparencies and colour negative, this feature is going to save you a lot of retouching time. The EPSON Perfection 4870 at £349 has to be one of the best bargains of the year.”

Photo-i's reviews are always well-written and researched - in my opinion up there with the best on the web. It's a pity Vincent doesn't review cameras as well as printers and scanners!

Excellent review, Mark. your review was what made me decide on purchasing this scanner. I have had excellent out put from it till a couple of weeks back.

I have scanned recently a 5x7 BW photo using Pro mode at 300 DPI & 8 bit greyscale and I am getting a posterized result even if displayed on a PHotoshop 7 software. The same is true with my 6x6 slides scans. What am i doing wrong?

Can you help? Is there a forum that I can browse to see any other users of the 4870 scanner? Appreciate any feedback.
Thanks.
