Photodex(R) Corporation Releases ProShow(R) Gold 2.5, the Newest Version of Its Award Winning Slide Show Software for Photo Enthusiasts and Professionals

AUSTIN, Texas, Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/—Photodex(R) Corporation today released ProShow(R) Gold 2.5, the newest version of its award winning slide show software for photo enthusiasts and professionals. ProShow Gold 2.5 allows users to easily and efficiently create quality multimedia slide show presentations to share with friends and family. Slide motion effects, captions effects, over 280 quality transitions, and unmatched performance make ProShow Gold the industry leading tool for creating quality DVD, PC, and Web slide shows.

“ProShow Gold 2.5 is the next logical step in empowering consumers to get the most out of their computers and photos. Even in the last year the industry has produced better digital camcorders, higher resolution digital cameras, and lower cost DVD writers. ProShow Gold is an excellent way to get more value out of these new and exciting technological advancements,” says Paul Schmidt, President, Photodex Corporation.

Based on user requests and feedback, new enhancements in ProShow Gold 2.5 make it easier than ever to create a quality DVD slide show presentation. New features include a light box view for organizing large numbers of slides, an audio CD soundtrack tool, new custom menu options, auto-correction for images, voice over recording for slide show narration, an option to back up project files to CD and DVD, user interface enhancements, unlimited undo and redo, and many additional features.

The new show backup system in ProShow Gold 2.5 gives users the option to backup or move a working slide show to their computer, a CD, or a DVD. ProShow Gold 2.5 will automatically gather all the contents and project files of a slide show and conveniently save them to a desired location.

Adding audio to a slide show is now easier than ever. Users can add their favorite music to a slide show directly from a CD without any extra conversion, using the audio CD soundtrack tool. ProShow Gold 2.5 also allows users to easily record a voice over narration to a slide show. As the user speaks into a microphone, ProShow Gold 2.5 records the audio and adds it to the slide show.

The light box view and unlimited undo and redo function are examples of many enhancements to the functionality and ease-of-use in ProShow Gold 2.5. Using the light box view, a user can organize and edit a larger number of their slides at once. The light box can be turned on or off and can be either docked or floated as a separate window. The light box provides all the functionality of ProShow Gold’s intuitive slide list, and can be used in conjunction with, or in place of the slide list. Using the unlimited undo and redo in ProShow Gold 2.5, a user can step-back or move forward through the changes they have made to their slide show. Mistakes can now be easily overcome by the click of a button.

This product certainly sounds interesting for users wishing to turn their vast arrays of images into fun slide shows quickly, easily and with a certain degree of professionalism. I'll be checking this product out further.

Well, it works as a slideshow generator for sure, but if you install it, have a nice day uninstalling it if you don´t like it... It doesn´t uninstall properly and a process you will have problems killing will remain.

That is EVIL!

I've been using ProShow Gold 2.6 for about 2 weeks to put together a 300 slide show from 1900 available images of a recent trip. I bought it because of the Ken Burns-like motion features. I find it relatively easy to use with extremely satisfying results, but there are a few warts also. It locks up every now and then and has to be rebooted. Fortunately, there are good auto recovery features that prevent the loss of your show, but it is a bit annoying because it takes probably 10 minutes to go through the reboot routine and reload your show. I get a lockup a few times a day but overall the program is so good I can overlook this.

Larry Templeton, re: your PSG 2.6. Very interesting. I downloaded, tried, bought, and loved 2.5. Started having problems with my DVD burner going slomo and upgraded (free) to 2.6. Then the REAL problems started. PSG 2.6 froze in the middle of burns, supposedly good completed burns did not work, crashes. Finally removed PSG, and reloaded from my 2.5 disk and guess what, all the problems went away. I've sent an email to Photodex and will see what they have to say. But it sounds like you saw the same problems as me. OTOH, 2.5 is absolutely flawless!!!

The proper reinstallation process may be more complicated than you realize. I received the following instruction on reinstallation from Photodex support.

"It sounds like the application is not installed properly on your machine. I suggest that you uninstall the previous version and the Photodex Presenter and then install the new ProShow Gold version 2.6 Build 1745. Make sure that you disable your anti-virus software before installing the new version of the program, as well as when you open the program for the first time. Then you need to search your machine for "*.pxc" and remove the cache file that is associated to all your slide shows. Now go into the directory where you save your slide show projects and locate a folder in the following format "nameofshow_psdata" then remove this folder."

I hope this helps.

I had 2.5 and loved it. I paid to upgrade to 2.6 and after spending hours uninstalling and reinstalling, I am calling today for a refund. It has many glitches including playing already saved shows differently. The upgrade is not worth the money.

I find Photodex ProShow Gold version 2.6 a wonderful program. It is user friendly and has lots of options to make a first time slideshow look professional. Although I am having 2 big problems.
I am using Photodex software to create a slideshow for my parents 50th anniversary. I have 175 photos and 10 audio files. For some reason, the when opening my slideshow file, it wants to upload other audio files that I have not used at all in the slideshow. I thought I got around this problem by renaming the audiofiles, but the program upon opening my file, uploaded four other audiofiles. The names of these files do not appear in the options -audio listing of files when I am using my slideshow file. The problem is when I play back the slideshow file, about 2/3 through the show, these songs are superimposed on the songs I had chosen to play...so 2 songs are playing at once! I do not see any options within the program to fix this...not sure if it is bug in the system. And at times, the program just abruptly shuts down. I ran diskscan, antivirus scans to make sure my program was running as efficiently as possible.
The other problem of the program abruptly shutting down is major. I was unable to get back into my file for a day while I figured out different ways to trick the system. But now that I am back in my slideshow file, it still abruptly closes down.

I am awaiting a response from the technical support group to help me fix this in time for the anniversary party.

If you elect to download ProShow Gold from Photodex instead of ordering the CD--Good Luck! It would be logical for software in this price range would, at least, have an instructional PSD file. Forget it. I contacted Photodex via eMail and receive an answer that I would have to pay $10, plus shipping for an instruction manuel or print out the "HELP" menu.

For any first-time user of PSG you will have to learn to use it by trial & error, help from other users, or the "HELP" feature. If anyone has ever had to learn new software using the "HELP" menu, you know what I mean.

The program may be great but Photodex itself seems to be a little "rinky-dink".

I purchased ProShow Gold before Christmas and absolutely loved it! Then, I was sent a notice that I needed to upgrade, so I did...BIG mistake, HUGE! Now, I'm having issues with the DVDs not burning, etc. I spent 1hour, 45mins. on Friday getting to know one of the techs who was friendly and tried to help, but it's still hit or miss at best. I'm really tempted to uninstall the whole thing and go back to the original program.

This program is crap. As a professional techie, I have worked on several computers that have had issues with ProShow. It truly is a hit-or-miss scenario with this proggie. You would be wise to stay away from it.
