PhotographyBLOG Review: Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z10

Mark Goldstein | PhotographyBLOG | November 29, 2004 | 14 Comments

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z10The Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z10 is an ultra-zoom digital camera that promises a lot in exchange for a relatively small amount of cash. Based around a 3.2 megapixel CCD sensor and an 8x zoom lens that is equivalent to 36-290mm on a 35mm camera, the Z10 has an amazing list of advanced features that make you look twice at its budget price-tag. A very fast start-up time of around 1/2 second, semi-automatic and manual exposure modes, futuristic body design, rapid autofocus and a macro mode that that lets you focus as close as 1cm from your subject all sound too good to be true, given that you can currently buy the Z10 for around £150. So can the Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z10 claim the title of the ultimate entry-level, ultra-zoom camera? Or have Konica Minolta bitten off more than they can chew? Carry on reading to discover the answer.

The reviewer seemed to think the Z10 was terrific !!!!
I have one and guess what - he is right. It is 300 in Aust with a wide angle lend included and it is a bargain !!
One omission was the battery life.
I use 2400maH nimh rechargables and they just go on and on - well over 500 shots !
I have changed battery saver mode from 1 to 5 minutes - cause the battery life is so good.
A fresh set of batteries and 512mb card and go for it !!!
Also both movie modes are great - silent but great.

Just a note: The sample shots will not open in browser or download. It gets to about 185K and then the download stops.

Hmmm... I've just managed to open one OK.

Does it happen with all the images in this review? And with the other reviews?

What a great, in-depth review excaim

A photography novice, I purchased this very camera just last month with very little real information to go on. Although I'd scoured the web and bulletin boards for info and reviews prior to purchase, many of my questions and concerns were not addressed ANYHERE! I wish I'd found your review. Luckily, I made a good, albeit, uninformed choice. Every point you make about this camera is RIGHT ON! Thanks - and I'll be back!

Best review I've seen on the web. Glad to see someone out there who is a photographer first, then a journalist. Keep up the great work!!!

I needed a camera with good macro ability , on a shoe string budget. Reading your reveiw convinced me that this camera was the one for me. I will be using it to take very close up pictures of jewelry to list for sale online ! Iam a complete novice to the world of photo's, and having a camera that would allow for a initial ease of use ,and then allow me to grow and have more options as I learn more ! My partner just ran out and purchased a camera for this task without doing any investigating ,because of your reveiw ,we now have a much better camera for the same price ,and it looks alot cooler !
Thank You ,Nick
