Former creative head of Getty Images Lewis Blackwell is the author of a new book, Photowisdom: Master Photographers on Their Art. Blackwell will deliver a lecture in the School of Visual Arts Theatre at 333 West 23rd Street, New York, on 14 December 2009. The lecture and slide presentation will be followed by a Q + A with the audience and a book signing. The book itself is a 216-page, full-colour publication featuring outstanding images and “revelatory” interviews, the publisher says. The interviewed photographers share their visions, their challenges, their motivations and their methods as they discuss the purpose and the technique of photography with the author. Photowisdom: Master Photographers on Their Art is available for $50.

Through an extraordinary selection of outstanding images, along with revelatory interviews, Photowisdom: Master Photographers on Their Art provides an unrivalled exploration of the richness of contemporary photographic practice.
The purpose and the technique of photography is explained and discussed with many of the greatest photographers of our time. They share their visions, their challenges, their motivations and their methods, as we are taken inside the work and behind the lens through original and highly accessible “in-their-own-words” commentaries.
The photographers featured range from award-winning photojournalists to celebrity shooters; from politicized environmentalists to elusive artists; from timeless veterans to new visionaries; and from great storytellers to the makers of lasting icons.
This remarkable group has come together to back an initiative that
Photowisdom is supporting with the innovative charity PhotoVoice, an award-winning organisation that uses photography to help disadvantaged people around the world tell their stories.
A contribution from each book sold will help fund the project.
This is a time when the creation of visual language has never been more vibrant, challenging or essential to our global culture.
Photowisdom brings together the wide range of outstanding image makers to help us understand where our vision of photography can take us.
