PMA 2007 - Sony G1
PMA 2007: The Sony G1 was the other new product that Sony announced at the show today. Unlike the Alpha DSLRs and lenses, the G1 camera is actually a real product. The Sony G1 features a huge 3.5 inch screen with 921,000 pixels and offers 2Gb of built-in storage (yes, 2Gbs!) and wi-fi connectivity, the first Sony camera to do so. On the downside, the Sony G1 only offers 6 megapixels and a 3x zoom lens, so may prove to be slightly disappointing on the image quality front.

What's with this comment?? "On the downside, the Sony G1 only offers 6 megapixels and a 3x zoom lens, so may prove to be slightly disappointing on the image quality front."
For years we've been complaining about the megapixel race. This camera actually seems to have meaningful improvements, and it gets this criticism? Explain how 6MP is a detriment to image quality in a compact?? How does a 3x zoom lens degrade quality? Neither of these factors indicates ANYTHING about the potential image quality of this camera - if anything, one might infer that the image quality will be better than the norm...

In your comments about the New Sony G1 you say it has ONLY (emphasized by me) 6 mp and refere to it as disappointing. My experience is that cameras with 6 mp may even take better pictures compared to models with 8 or even 10 mp given the quality of the chip, lens and processor. I thought it was a common
understanding among specialists that the pixel hysterics is considerably exaggerated, and may lead to the false understanding among consumers that pixels is all that counts.
