In addition, the Newman Foundation has established an endowment at Maine Media Workshops to provide financial assistance to students in the form of scholarships.
“The Arnold Newman Prize demonstrating excellence in photographic portraiture, and the endowment program established at Maine Media Workshops are wonderful ways to maintain our father’s legacy and all his accomplishments as a photographer while providing an opportunity for other photographers to explore their creative vision,” explains David Newman, Arnold’s son and co-founder of the foundation with his brother Eric.
“By offering financial assistance from the Foundation and public exposure through the Maine Media Workshops and their partners, we are able to encourage and reward excellence in photography,” says Eric Newman. “Our parents would be pleased with the opportunities their foundation presents to young and talented photographers,” Newman added.
“Arnold Newman was one of the greatest and most influential photographers of our time: passionate, innovative, and utterly unique,” says Gregory Heisler, world-renowned photographer and Artist-in-Residence at Hallmark Institute of Photography, who got his start as Newman’s assistant. “He was truly fascinated by, and curious about, those individuals who enriched and helped shape his world, and this was reflected in his illuminating, incomparable, and definitive portraits.
