Ricoh GX100 Review
TrustedReviews have reviewed the Ricoh GX100 digital camera, which features a 10.01 megapixel CCD, fast 24-72mm wide zoom lens and a removable electronic viewfinder.
“The final criterion is of course image quality, and here is where the GX100 runs into a problem. For all its versatility and performance, it still has a small, overpowered sensor, and is heir to all the woes that brings. The 24-72mm lens is very sharp right across the frame, and produces surprisingly little distortion for such a wide-angle lens. Images are very detailed, but there is a noticeable lack of colour depth and dynamic range. The exposure system seems to be set for shadow detail by default, and as a result it burns out highlights in high-contrast shots. Image noise is also a big problem at all but the lowest ISO settings, with pictures above 400 ISO effectively unusable fro anything but the smallest prints.”

We want a compact cam with a bigger sensor and RAW format.
Why is this so difficult to communicate to the industry?

Cos it's costly and that would make it impractical.
That's why they developed smaller sensors, including the DX sizes for SLRs. Cost-effectiveness.
Of course times have changed and costs have come down a lot and so we have a tremendous amount of features now on many cameras, so much more than what we had just 5 years ago. But that's how it always is with technology, isn't it?
But - I have to say one thing: as it says in the review, about how this camera "runs into a problem" with image quality.
For 2 years now as I recall reading this site, and image quality has always been a problem with Ricoh camera - what's with that? Inferior parts? Don't really care about quality? If we talked about this in terms of cars, are we talking about a cheaper alternative car like Kia or something? What's with Ricoh anyways?
