Samsung Press Release
Samsung Ditch Day Event Offers Hands-On Photo Experiences and Encourages Consumers to #DITCHtheDSLR
Consumers that #DITCHtheDSLR at the Event will Receive a New NX30 SMART Camera
RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J. -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Samsung Electronics America invites consumers to #DITCHtheDSLR at Ditch Day in Times Square on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 from 12 pm – 6 pm ET. In the last year, Samsung has gained significant market share in the mirrorless digital imaging category, taking the number 2 spot, and on June 4th the brand encourages consumers to attend the event to familiarize themselves with connected mirrorless photography, hands-on experiences and shooting techniques.
Attendees also have the opportunity to #DITCHtheDSLR (or trade-in a DSLR – fully operational Digital Single Lens Reflex camera including battery, power supply and lens) in exchange for a new NX30 (retail value $999, while supplies last), one of Samsung’s latest and most capable mirrorless cameras. See full Samsung Camera “Ditch Day” Promotion Terms and Conditions at www.samsung.com/us/ditchday. Consumers will also have an opportunity to #DITCHtheDSLR in exchange for a mail-in rebate worth $50 off the purchase of a Samsung NX Smart camera, including the new NX Mini or NX3000.
“Smartphones give consumers the opportunity to take photos and share at a moment’s notice, but sometimes you want a higher quality image with those same instant share options. The full line of Samsung SMART Cameras give consumers the option to take that great shot and share it instantly,” said Ron Gazzola, Senior Vice President for Marketing, Digital Imaging, Samsung Electronics America. “Too often, consumers are led to believe that high quality photos can only come from a DSLR, which are heavier, often more complicated, and seemingly more intimidating than mirrorless cameras. Ditch Day is the perfect opportunity for customers to see what’s possible with the cutting edge mirrorless technology and #DITCHtheDSLR in favor of a next generation device, like the NX30.”
Samsung’s Ditch Day will take place in the heart of New York’s Times Square (between 42nd and 43rd streets, in front of the NASDAQ marquee) and will feature several unique shooting stations where consumers have the opportunity to experience the full line of mirrorless and SMART cameras in a variety of scenarios:
- Highlighting the speed of Samsung’s mirrorless cameras like the NX30, consumers can take their pole positions and freeze the fast-paced action of slot cars as they race around the track with a variety of Samsung’s NX lenses.
- Zoom in on Times Square from the Skydeck and create a stunning snapshot of one of NY’s most iconic destinations using Samsung’s line of versatile NX lenses.
- Get in on the selfie frenzy and perfect their selfie pose with the NX Mini.
Adding further value to the event, a group of Samsung #Imageloggers will be on hand discussing their experiences since ditching the DSLR in favor of Samsung’s NX cameras and offering up tips for how to capture great images. Imageloggers have been identified through their activity in social groups and experience with photography and are unpaid participants in the program.
The highlight of the event will take place after visitors have experienced Samsung’s experimental sections and are ready to #DITCHtheDSLR in favor of a brand new Samsung NX30 SMART Camera. Participants can trade-in their older DSLR camera and receive a Samsung NX30 camera (while supplies last). Participants that ditch a lesser camera, such as a point and shoot, or pledge to #DITCHtheDSLR are eligible to receive a mail-in rebate worth $50 off the future purchase of a Samsung digital camera. All ditched DSLRs will be recycled responsibly.
