Samsung NV10Samsung UK Press Release

London, UK – 15 August, 2006 - The Samsung NV10 has been named as the European Compact Camera 2006-2007 by The European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA). Along with the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) award. The EISA award is one of the most respected in the world and often referred to as the Nobel Prize for cameras. The Samsung NV10 was short listed by a team of 50 influential specialists from 20 European countries before being subjected to rigorous quality tests. EISA praised the unique makeup of the Smart Touch user interface and groundbreaking new design concept before concluding that the NV10 is a truly compact and robust camera.

The NV10 is one of three new premium models introduced as part of the NV Series along with the NV3 and NV7. It is equipped with an innovative Smart Touch User interface, 10.1 mega pixels, Samsung’s unique Advanced Shake Reduction (ASR) technology, a high quality 3x optical zoom Schneider lens and a 2.5” wide-view LCD.

Mr Jake Kim – Managing Director, Samsung Cameras UK, says “The NV10, along with the rest of the premium NV series, is the result of two years hard work, and we are thrilled that it has been recognised by EISA and named European Compact Camera 2006/07. The award proves how the design, quality and technology of the NV10 can satisfy the specialists in the photographic industry. The NV cameras present a unique offering to users with new features not currently available on the market and we are proud to use this range as the cornerstone of our compact camera vision. We believe it will become the benchmark for quality and innovation that photographers of all levels can expect from Samsung.”

The NV10 retails around £279 and will be available from leading high street and online retailers by September.

Please elaborate on your comments. I was considering buying. What is so bad about it? Finepix F30 a better choice? Oh, and it's a copy of what?
Why make your own lens when Schneider lets you put its very good lens in your camera anyway?

IMHO, in defense of Samsung, Korean companies in general have had to compete with Japanese and European companies in a very baised world, and, have done so very well! In bed with some famous German companies, many "German" cameras are actually Korean made.
Many folks think that the "We try harder" attitude exists with Samsung, therefore giving their products a real reason to be considered.
I live here in Japan and seldom see Korean stuff for sale, off the Base, except for noodles! Wish that wasn't true!
I posted a comment about these awards , some awards are for cameras that haven't even been released yet! This fact tends to discredit the awarding committee, as well as the recipient in my eyes, and creates questions that are counter-productive to reputation building.
I would much rather see creative advertising than an questionable award scheme, dreamed up by someone in the ad department....IMHO
I'm sure the NV10 may be a great camera, BUT, who REALLY knows until someone actually drives it and puts some miles on it, so to speak!
