Samsung UK Press Release
Samsung offers a brand new vision with premium “NV Series” - NV Series strengthens digital compact camera portfolio for Samsung
London, UK - Samsung Cameras is bringing a new vision to the digital compact camera market with the NV Series. Consisting of three cameras, the NV7 OPS, NV10 and NV3, the NV Series was developed following a two year consumer research study to gain insight into the lifestyle and needs of consumers and their picture-taking interests. Samsung has devised attractive designs and new user interface (UI) concepts to create a premium product group. As well as offering practical technology and easy usability, the new NV Series stands for individuality and style. Launched with a new blue ring, this design concept aims to become a consistent mark for Samsung quality and design in the digital camera market. The NV Series introduces the innovative UI using Smart Touch buttons for the first time in a digital camera, offering easy and convenient control for the NV7 OPS and NV10 – a gentle touch is all it takes to navigate menu items, manipulate the settings, or view your pictures.
“The NV cameras present a unique offering to users with new and additional features not currently available on the market,” said Jake Kim, managing director, Samsung Cameras UK. “We are proud to use this range as the cornerstone of our compact camera vision and believe it will benchmark the quality and innovation that photographers of all levels can expect from Samsung.”
NV7 OPS
Delivering a more advanced photographic experience for taking scenery, sports, portraits or even more challenging shots, the NV7 OPS, with 7.2 mega pixels and a 7x optical zoom, offers both the Optical Picture Stabilisation (OPS) and the Advanced Shake Reduction (ASR) processing function to deliver optimum image quality. These combined technologies enable you to take clear and natural pictures anywhere and in lower light conditions without using a flash. Additional functionality provides TV quality MPEG-4 VGA (640x480) 30 fps video recording (including zoom and pause) and a photo gallery function for convenient picture viewing with the Smart Touch interface. The NV7 OPS comes with a rechargeable battery and has a multi-charging system including USB and optional high capacity SBP-4442 battery kit.
NV10
With 10.1 mega pixels and a 2.5” wide-view LCD, the NV10 provides brighter, sharper, more detailed images. Coupled with Samsung’s unique Advanced Shake Reduction (ASR) system, the NV10 enables you to take clearer pictures indoors or in lower light conditions. The NV10 also features TV quality MPEG-4 VGA (640x480) 30fps video recording (zoom and pause). A virtual dial mode is also offered for added convenience in controlling the camera. The NV10 comes complete with a rechargeable battery and can also be charged via USB, or via the optional high capacity SBP-4442 battery kit.
NV3
Functioning as a high resolution 7.2 mega-pixel digital camera, the NV3 is both a luxurious and practical multimedia device sure to attract the next generation of digital photographers. Encased in a thin 17.5mm metal body, it also acts as an MP3 player using a special audio processing chip delivering 3D, Jazz, Rock, and other sound effects. Listen to the music via the built-in stereo speakers or included headphones. The NV3 includes a Portable Multimedia Player (PMP) to watch downloaded movies. The NV3 also doubles as a digital camcorder with MPEG-4 TVD (720x480) 20fps & VGA (640x480) 30fps, Auto Gain Control (AGC) technology minimises zoom noise during video recording. A text viewer allows the user to read text on the LCD, or to use as an e-book, whilst the multi-tasking ability enables you to listen to music while taking pictures.

The NV7 OPS looks very interesting. I am looking for a good digicam to go along with my DSLR but haven't found anything yet. I'd be interested to know what kind of manual control the NV7 OPS has. A pity they didn't put a zoom ring on the lens barrel.

Nice looking set, appeal for lottsa folks, but, in keeping with the collusion of omitting data lottsa folks need, like what kind of sensor are we dealing with, we can't get excited yet, if at all.
In the begining of 2005, my favorite magazine, Shutterbug, in the quick reference section of B&H ads, colluded to delete all the sensor sizes of the digital cameras. I guess they figured out that size DOES matter, and that many folks used that info in determining possible picture quality. Keeping that basic info from us will lessen the chance of us doing some evaluating on our own. Unsat!
That said, this is interesting, the OOPS, and, ASR in ONE of the models! That may be real nice.
We got a thickness issue here too, I would like to see some reviews to see if these are competitive or not.

The NV7 does look interesting. Though I'd trade in the 7x zoom with an ultra-fast wide-angle prime. But that's not really what the average consumer wants.
I wonder what kind of ISO settings they'll have.

DPReview reckons the ISO range will be 100, 200, 400, 800, 1000. Though what the performance will be like above 400 we will have to wait and see.
Good idea on the wide-angle, that would be nice.

Real focal lengths are often written on the lens -> you can compute the diagonal of the sensor by using the usually provided 35mm equivalent and use that correspondance
Here, NV7 and NV3 use 7MP 1/2.5" sensors while NV10 uses a 10MP 1/1.8" sensor (I believe sensor size, equivalent focal lengths and real f-number should always be provided)
The NV7 OPS is starting at 38mm... what a shame!!! :-(

Any idea on the depth of the NV7? DPReview lists a 35.7 mm depth for
the "projecting part" but, to me, it looks like the lens protrudes that far
PAST the 20.9 mm body, which would make the NV7 just over 2" deep.

thought i'd post this on here, i originally posted it on the panasonic lx2 page ..... loads of places on tottenham court road in london have the nv10 and a few the nv3, nv7's are expected imminently -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
why can't they {panasonic} make a sensor with lower noise ... :-( i had a play with a samsung nv10 today ... noise was certainly pretty low at high iso's, the camera is beautiful and the menu / interface really innovative, but manual options are distinctly limited. if noise is as bad {on the panasonic lx2} as skipp says, i guess it'll probably be the nv7 for me .... maybe by the time they release the lx3 they'll finally have done something with the sensor. have you tried the high sensitivity mode yet, skidd? i was wondering if due to the reduced resolution, noise might not be such an issue?

which of the three would anyone recommend for the video quality?
they all look very interesting and i can't decide upon which of the video qualities would be better.

Lynd, these are three entirely different cameras, with the NV7 having
a 7x optical zoom and optical image stabilization as its major features,
the NV10 having a 10 megapixel CCD and wide-view LCD as its major
features, and the NV3 having built-in MP3 and PMP functionality as its
major features. It seems very strange to select one of the three based
on their video quality.
Having said that, they all have similar video quality; however, the NV3
has better video features.

Has anyone had a chance to play with a NV7 ?
I m also interested in any link to a review of this new model... Isn't it a shame that reviews are not available before new stuffs hit the stores ?

Haven't seen any reviews yet, just a couple of interesting previews at
LetsGoDigital and DCRP, which you've probably already seen.

Doesn't seem to be available here so am waiting with bated breath for anyone who has tried the NV7. The only reviews I found thought the 3 was good and the 10 bad. I am most interested in the 7 due to the zoom. I don't enlarge mine too much, more likely to zero in on a section and crop from there.Size is also important since I like to pocket it.

Features on this NV10 camera are like those of an SLR. This camera allows me to adjust the ISO, Aperature and exposure settings as well as many other features. I can take B/W pics and more. The camera seem to shut off by itself on ocassion. not sure why. plan to call samsung to find out. The video quality is very good alowing me to shoot XVID mpeg 4 movies that are better than broadcasrt quality at 640 by 480. I think the camera is a bit buggi and a software upgrade from Samsung these issues would be resolved. The camera is very usable even with the bugs. An example of a bug would be that the camera would not take pics at 10 mega pixels in negative mode( that is shooting the pic as a negative) however this worked with 7 MPIX. the B/w and SPIA settings worked fine at 10 MPIX. it dint win the European Compact Camera 2006-2007 by The European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA). Along with the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) award for nothing.
