An advanced prototype of the Samsung NX camera and three lenses is being shown behind glass here at the IFA show in Germany. The NX camera looks more refined than the model that first made an appearance back at the PM show in March. At first glance the Samsung NX seems to be rivalling the likes of the Panasonic G1 / GH1 in terms of its size, despite having a larger APS-C sized sensor inside. Click through for some close-up shots of the high-end camera system that Samsung will be concentrating on for the immediate future.

I will never understand why manufacturers still go for the horrible and fake dSLR design.
It makes absolutely no sense and it rules the NX out for me. Olympus has shown with the EP1 how such a camera should look like or the Panasonic GF1. If I want a dSLR design I rather buy a proper dSLR instead.

Well.. It's just because the grip is comfortable and with a big lens it's important to have a good grip and ergonomic body. I think so. Anyway I wouldn't buy this camera in any case;)

@photographyblog: Thank you for the pictures.
@samsung: Bravo for developing another EVIL-camera with a larger sensor, but: no movable back display? Seriously? In 2009?
So I have to wait for a NX-2 (or another camera of another company).

i think that in reflex world there are only two real brand: nikon and canon.

No fanboy, i think that nikon and canon are almost equal, no one is better than the others.

all other brand are below these two.

"all other brand are below these two."

1- All other bradS are below these two. Or "any other brand is below this pair". As you wish. But not the way you´ve written it.

2-Good luck with it, then. You´re missing the best lenses on the market now, the Zuiko. Your bad. You´re missing, as well, many other capabilites of other brands:

The very good sensor from Samsung [better detail retention than Sony-Canon-Panasonic sensors, Nikon does buy its sensors to Sony], put in the Pentax and Samsung cameras.

The very tough bodies from Olympus in the E-x series, body quality to match.

Buy or use the brand that suits you most and you can afford, not by what it is written on top of the mirror box, or prism box if you´re lucky.

Samsung NX possibly a qualified competitor given the specs its offerings then followed by the price where nobody can stand side-by-side. When you say samsung-brand it means BIG, may not be popular but their R&D for their DSLR market is just a fraction of their HUGE pockets and can go forward as they wish (possibly years to mature their name on DSLR)
In the Real-World where Big Money(Mega) is involve
Medium Format is always first priority like Hasselblad, Phase One, Mamiya altho Pentax may now be a late comer in 645-DiGi-racetrack will be out eventually.
Of Course there are other brand that can shoot a flying bird and cars in formula one, flowers for twent-five cents per picture (Big DEAL!!) .
(0.25 cts/picture) but its just as good as pass time. A Real "Pros" uses medium format most of the time for its high quality output and money is never a question.
So tell me, will NX be enough for consumer/prosumer ?
***** WHAT IS A PRO ??? *****

everyone's opinions are good but bashing one's brand only create complications,
OPINIONS if kept moderately will give everybody an idea of a particular subject, and can raise another idea w/o hesitation.

More importantly, the LENSES are missing. If the lenses are the size of what the model is holding (and yes, I do realize it has a lens hood attached), then I’m not interested. These cameras only make sense to me with pancake primes or collapsible zooms. Otherwise I might as well use a small dSLR.
