Samsung WB5500
Samsung Germany has announced the 13.8-megapixel Samsung WB5500 digital camera with a 26x zoom lens. Spanning a 35mm equivalent focal range of 26-676mm, the Samsung WB5500’s lens bears the prestigious Schneider-Kreuznach name on its barrel. The camera offers manual and semi-manual exposure modes and can store the captured photos as raw image data. Videographers will appreciate the HD movie recording capability and the fact that they can use the 26x optical zoom while filming. Movies are compressed using the H-264 codec and stored in MPEG-4 format. Endowed with an HDMI port, the Samsung WB5500 is available priced at €429.

Specifications appear impressive. 13.8 Megs, 26X and RAW, all read great. However, what is the CCD/CMOS size? I think something about the camera sensor ought to have been mentioned here.

It looks like just a refresh of the WB5000, which got less than impressive reviews on picture quality?
Same specs, different sensor?

I am thinking of purchasing this camera because of its small
size and not having to change any lens. I will be photographing
my dogs running, jumping, and still shots.
I've been told by a salesman at the camera store that it is an
SLR. I didn't read anything about this online. I want to push
the shutter and have the picture taken immediately with no
hesitation.
Do you think I will be happy with this camera.
Thanks,
Theo

Dear Hendra,
Could you tell me please, where is this shop? - I live in Australia as well so I'm wondering how the Samsung WB5500, which is a new camera, can be sold for AUD$197 when it is listed on Samsung's website for US$380 which equates to about AUS$435.

O got a WB5500 last November from Pixmania and I'm satisfied, but I'm not an expert on photography.
I should prefer a Panasonic Lumix FZ38, but it was more exepensive, with less Megapixels and zoom and not so easier of use.
I ordered to Lisbon, payed to Paris and received from Barcelona... This is globalization!
The price? Only €209 (now €199), but €449 on "Mediamarket".

Just bought one of these. The resolution is superb to a large extent because it has superfine JPEG. You can blow the pictures up to pixel level without compression and noise reduction artefacts showing . The pictures as a result are really crisp without that chunkiness you get with fine compression. I had a Fuji S4000 which had only Fine compression and came nowhere near realising the 14MP resolution. The samsung is a super camera to use especially with an AEL button which really makes it easy to get exposure right. I love this camera. I really have had to revise my views on 14MP on small sensors. OK indoor shots may degrade from the pixel count, but not to any great extent, and as an outdoor camera this is superb.

Hey every body
I have a problem with my Samsung WB 5500 Camera when I want to download my photos. Its appears on the Windows Explorer "Facedata.bin" instead of the photos name.
Is it a virus? How can I do?
Thanks, Simon
