Scheider Press Release 21/10/04

Hauppauge, NY, October 21, 2004 - Scheider Optics, the well known lens and professional filter manufacturer, now offers a broad line of B+W Digital-Pro filters created specifically for digital cameras.

Whether using a simple point-and-shoot, a digital SLR (DSLR) or a digital camcorder, B+W Digital-Pro filters are designed to enable the user to capture the best possible image in-camera, with a wide range of artistic effects and superb results whether or not the image is subsequently adjusted with image editing software. In fact, using a B+W Digital-Pro filter up front will actually enable a greater amount of subsequent software manipulation, by providing more detail across the entire image spectrum.

“Using B+W Digital-Pro filters enable you to start out with a superior image, allowing you to use your software to enhance your photos if you wish, rather than waste time using your software to correct image problems that may not be repairable” explained Scheider Senior Vice President Ron Leven. “While software is a powerful tool for any digital photographer, it doesn’t eliminate detail-blocking glare like a polarized filter does…it cannot replace the detail in an overexposed sky routinely captured using an on-camera graduated ND filter…and of course, it can’t protect your lens from damange the way a UV/skylight filter can.”

The B+W Digital Pro line currently includes eight filter trpes for a broad range of effects:

Digital-Pro UV/Skylight filters block UV radiation and its resulting haze that can adversely afffect contrast and definition in your images. These color-neutral filters are also used to protect the camera lens from damage.

Digital-Pro Polarizer filters increase color saturation and contrast, as well as suppress reflections and glare. Results achieved with these filters cannot be achieved with software, as B+W Polarizers enable the digital camera sensor to “see” - and therefore capture - more of the scene.

Digital-Pro Neutral Density Gray filters cut light to the camera without affecting the color within a scene, giving you greater exposure control and the ability to capture details your camera would otherwise be unable to see.

Digital-Pro Graduated Neutral Density filters are clear in one half, neutral gray in the other, which enables you to reduce the brightness in the brightness area of your image while keeping the rest of the image unchanged. The use of neutral gray helps keep the colors consistent throughout the entire image, while a gradual blend between the neutral gray and clear areas makes the transition between the two virtually unnoticeable.

Digital-Pro Cross Screen filters enable you to achieve glamorous, four point star patterns that fan out from every light source in your image.

Digital-Pro Softening filters introduce a wonderful softening effect to your images without degrading the sharpness achievable through the lens.

Digital-Pro Infrared filters enable yu to achieve dramatic, artistic infrared effects with a digital camera more easily than ever before.

Digital-Pro Close-up lenses enable you to shoot images up-close with your camera’s full range of focal lengths. These lenses are akin to adding the capabilities of a zoom macro lens to your digital camera.

Digital-Pro Clear MRC filters provide optimal protection for the front of your lens without providing UV filtration. These filters include sizes up to 127mm - ideal for professional digital camcorders used in the television industry.

Tow new sizes added
In addition to the newly-released filter sizes of 25mm and 34mm, B+W Digital-Pro filters are available on all Digital-Pro filters, and 25.5mm through 62mm filters are available with optional chrome mount as a special order.

B+W quality, now in a digital filter
B+W Digital-Pro filters are made to the same exacting standards as world-renowned B+W filters for film photography. Unlike other filters, whic are cut from ordinary, green-tinted window glass, B+W filters are diamond cut from cylinders of crystal clear, water-white Schott German optical glass, and are then precisely ground and polished to achieve flatness on both surfaces. Each B+W filter is then tested with an interferometer to ensure uniform thickness throughout. B+W filter glass is coated on both sides, to control unwanted reflection and lens flare, which can seriously degrade image contrast and resolution.
