Schneider Kreuznach has introduced its first-ever lenses designed for the Micro Four Thirds system. The first lens in the series, the 28mm equivalent Super-Angulon 14mm f/2 wide-angle lens, will be available by the third quarter of 2013. In the fourth quarter, it will be followed by the Xenon 30mm f/1.4 “universal” prime and the Makro-Symmar 60mm f/2.4 macro lens. The Super-Angulon 14mm f/2 features 10 elements with 4 aspherical surfaces, the Xenon 30mm f/1.4 has 7 elements with 1 aspherical surface, while the Makro-Symmar is an 8-element lens. Unusually for Schneider Kreuznach, these lenses will offer auto focus capabilities as well as diaphragm control via the camera body. Pricing and exact availability to be confirmed.

Schneider Kreuznach first announced its intention to enter the compact system camera lens market in June 2012, after joining Micro Four Thirds in February 2011.

Schneider Press Release

Schneider-Kreuznach presents its new range of lenses for mirrorless system cameras of the Micro Four Thirds standard at this year’s photokina in Cologne. The first lens in the series, a 14 mm wide-angle lens, will be available on the market by the third quarter of 2013.

In the fourth quarter of 2013, it will be followed by a 30 mm universal lens and a 60 mm macro version. “We are delighted at the high level of interest in our involvement in MFT,” said Harald Barth, head of the Photo Imaging division at Schneider-Kreuznach.

The new series offers ambitious users of mirrorless system cameras a choice of high-precision and powerful high-end lenses “Made in Germany”. The lenses feature a high luminous intensity and a very high resolution across the entire image. Using aspheres promises perfect image results without any image correction by the camera. The compact lenses meet the same technical standards as lenses for full frame cameras manufactured in Bad Kreuznach.

The electronic interface between lens and camera provides aperture control, precise autofocus and image optimization.
The high-quality aluminum housing, robust mechanics and hydrophobic coating of the outer lenses strongly protects against dust and water splashes. The new optical design with special high-refractive lens elements is fully optimized for the specific requirements of mirrorless system cameras.

The lenses at a glance

* Super-Angulon 14 mm/2.0 wide-angle lens (10 lens elements with 4 aspherical surfaces)
* Xenon 30 mm/1.4 universal lens (7 lens elements with 1 aspherical surface)
* Makro-Symmar 60 mm/2.4 wide-aperture macro lens (8 lens elements).
