Sigma Deutschland has announced a limited edition Sigma SD1 that comes in a removable, hand-made wooden housing. “Over 60 hours of milling, sawing, grinding and polishing are needed to allow one of the finest and rarest woods of the world blend with the SD1,” the company says, calling the Sigma SD1 Wood Edition a “luxurious Christmas gift for photo enthusiasts”. To place an order for the €9,999 camera (without a lens), contact Sigma Deutschland directly. Not only do you have to dig deep in your pocket - you need to hurry up too, as there are only ten copies available for purchase.

I'm betting the genius that came up with the pricing strategy also came up with this. Yea, just add some wood, that will get them selling. I wouldn't carry this thing if it was free.

Wow
I guess the camera is SO NOT selling that they have to resort to this...
Sad, I think a lot of people would have been interested in this product if it was priced correctly.

@NYC - I bet they will have no trouble selling all 10, but wow is that crazy money... You can kit out a studio for that sort of money!

What a waste of time!

For photografers? Never. Perhaps for "Art Colections". But I'm thinking, as I'm from Brasil, I'm afraid that this housing was made with brasilian wood and they had paid some pennys for it. Poor South America....

This has got to be one of the ugliest things I've seen... I can think of a lot more useful things that can be done with rare woods...

Once again, the Sigma guys proved that they are completely out-of-touch with reality.

Come on, already, admit that you've no idea how to sensibly implement the wonderful Foveon technology and apologize for killing it!

How ugly would you like your camera to be sir? This looks simply obscene.
