Sony has launched two entry-level compact cameras that draw power from standard AA batteries. The Cyber.shot DSC-S2000 and S2100 (pictured) are basic models with 3x optical zoom (equivalent to 35-105mm in 35mm terms) and standard-definition VGA movie capture. The Sony S2000 is a 10-megapixel camera with a 2.5” rear screen, while the S2100 boasts 12 megapixels and a 3” display. Like the Cyber-shot HX5, TX7 and W series models, the Cyber-shot S2000 and S2100 also take SD and SDHC cards as well as Memory Stick PRO Duos. The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S2100 should be available starting next month, priced at $120. The S2000 appears to be a Europe/Asia only model.

Bought the camera 2 weeks back. Very very ugly and orthodox looking camera actually!
But gives smart results...
Lightning quick auto focus in iP mode.
Smile shutter excellent But steadyshot is not useful at all, it always senses shakes when hand held!
Pros-
Quick start up
Automatically selects mode within a fraction of a second using "intelligent-auto"
Very smart auto focus
Good Macros
Face detection perfect9/10times
Decent video also
Good Non-flash high iso night images (gives full control over iso)
Battery friendly indeed!

Cons-
Very 'antic' looking clumsy design.
There is no sports mode so cant get a higher shutter speed on moving subjects.
No control over shutter speed at all.
Poor landscape details.
the "Steadyshot" feature is useless and annoying as it always finds shakes even when the camera is super steady.
Lacks features and only has limited modes to choose from.

I bought it for Rupees 6500 and its PERFECT for the price i paid.
I give a 8.6/10 for this product.

this is really good camera with the price, i bought it for backup my DSLR due to my DSLR still waiting claim for the part in services center.

Nothing to complain about this camera, compare the photo with panasonic tz7 , the image quality is slightly better than TZ7.it really surprise me.
because TZ7 cost is about 3 times more than S2100.

Good Camera.

Buy rechargeable batteries, it`s cheaper.
Marked with NI-MH.
More mAh, more pictures without recharging (example: 2200 mAh is better than 1600 mAh).
One pair is about 5$, can be used more than 1 year, depends on usage, can be longer if you use the camera infrequently.

I think, if you did not put a finger on the microphone (while you recording), contact the seller to replace your product.

was given Sony cyber-shot DSC-2000 as present but doesn't seem to be registering memory card I inserted.SD card as recommended, what type of memory card are others using?

Hello, Rosie.
You can use SD/SDHC class 4 or more for video-recording ability, or Memory Stick PRO Duo (not Memory Stick Duo).
I using Memory Stick PRO Duo 512 MB, but I recommended more, minimum 1GB, optimum 2GB. But, this is your decision.

I'm not sure, but I think it goes like this:
1 Press the MENU button to display the MENU
screen.
2 Select (Settings) with button down on the control button, then press O on the center of the control button to display the setup screen.
3 Select the desired category (Main Settings in this case) with up/down buttons, then press
button right to select each item, then press O.
4 Select the desired setting, then press O

In short: Menu button/Main settings/Beep/Off

From manual:
"When you press the shutter button halfway down, the camera adjust the focus automatically (Auto Focus). Remember to press the shutter button only halfway down."

When you want to photograph, press the button halfway, the camera will focus on a second or two, then will hear a sound that is ready for photography (light will blink during focusing, it lights up continuously when focusing is completed), then press harder and completed .

Did this sony DSC-s2000 can print the photo with the date and time taken. when I save the photo I taken there is no time and date, same when i print but we can see it in the camera. please help me to source this problem

"The camera does not have a feature for superimposing dates on images. By using “PMB” in the CDROM (supplied), you can print or save images with the date."

Another way is that, in some image processing software, enroll date on the image and then print. Date you can find out if you click the right mouse button on picture and choose properties.

You don't hear the sound until you down load it on your computer.

I just hope your camera do what mine is doing. After videoing a family Reunion i down loaded it to my computer and found the whole time we were totogether that the sound had a on/ off static sound the whole time. I think i bought a lemon.

zed, if you do not use auto mode, then you have to choose the shooting mode depending on the circumstances of shooting (scene selection).
If you are not satisfied with the photo, it can be processed using a program for image processing (not practical for a large number of photos)

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S2000 camera has some good features and some bad ones. The cameras iq isn't that bad, I found the "Smile Detection" feature to be really neat and cool to use. The auto focus is good and takes a good quality picture. For the price that is. When using the video recording I found it very frustrating as to figure out why my sound wasn't playing on video playback. After spending a couple hours toying with it, it took me to read the entire manual twice to notice that on Page 18 of the user manual, it says in a one line tiny print:

"Note: You cannot listen to the audio with this camera when a movie is played back."

After finally solving that mystery, I wasn't too keen on using this camera for video because of the inability to hear the video until uploaded onto your PC/MAC.. Not cool. Especially seeing that half of the users were frustrated with the same issue.

6/10 For me

Rajus's Sony DSC S2100 CAMERA was alright till now. But Now the problem is that it is not turning ON, reason is not known. Earlier AA batteries were getting Hot. The camera was showing battery low. So batteries changed. Now New set of batteries is placed in But camer is not getting on. Only the " On " button blinks for a fraction of second. What to do now.? I am sure that the camera is not mishandled.
