Sony Cyber-shot DSC-G1 Review
The new Sony Cyber-shot DSC-G1 digital compact camera is a radical departure from the norm. How many other cameras can you think of that offer a 3.5 inch, 921,000 pixel LCD screen, Wi-Fi connectivity, MP3 player, optical image stabilisation and 2Gb of internal storage? On the other hand the Sony G1 also has some more regular features in the shape of a 6 megapixel sensor and 3x zoom lens equivalent to 38-114mm. To top it all off, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-G1 has a suggested retail price of £449 / £600, putting it in direct competition with an entry-level DSLR with kit lens. Is the Sony G1 worth that hefty price premium? We find out in the world’s first online review of the Sony Cybershot DSC-G1.

Nice compact digital camera, too bad it's only 6MP!

I was hoping limiting the camera to 6 megapixels would help limit its
image noise, but that doesn't appear to be the case. What happened? :)

Even 6 MP is too much for such tiny sensors.
4 MP would perhaps provide much better image quality.

Okay, I'll split the difference with you, '5' megapixels, especially if you
consider the efficiencies of today's microlens arrays for collecting light.

Thank you SO much for providing the sample photos of Sony's Cybershot G1. I really want to buy it but some web comments were making me hesitate. Is there any way you could PLEASE post a small movie with normal talking on it so I can judge if the negative comments about the G1's audio are accurate? I couldn't tell from the one you posted because of the naturally high level of noise from a crowd scene. I would be so grateful if you could help me (and others) out by giving us some example(s) of audio from just talking with the movie going or even talking among two to three people? Thanks regardless, for the awesome photos. Are you happy with the G1? Donna in Texas
