Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W150 Review

Mark Goldstein | Digital Compact Cameras | April 11, 2008 | 2 Comments

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W150DCResource have reviewed the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W150, an 8.1-megapixel camera with 5x optical zoom lens and 2.7 inch LCD screen.

“The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W150 is a competent little camera that offers a pleasing combination of zoom power, image stabilization, performance, and point-and-shoot features. Being that it’s completely devoid of manual controls, it’s not a great choice for those who take long exposures, or shoot under unusual lighting conditions. For everyone else, though, the Cyber-shot DSC-W150 is worth checking out.”

"Completely devoid of manual controls" is not true. I've got one of these beauties, and you can control focus distance and type, EV, ISO, metering, saturation and colour balance. And I've turned off all the smile shutter and face detection stuff. I would have liked to be able control NR, but that's life. Also, I will never understand while all cameras do not provide access to a raw version of the image. I bought it because Sony has improved NR to the point where ISO 400 images are eminently usable, the widest angle is 30mm equivalent instead of the usual 35, the zoom is 5x, it has image stabilization and an optical view finder. I just can't haul that 30D and a bag of lenses around with me everywhere; even the S5 IS is too cumbersome.
