St. Paul’s Cathedral

An impromptu visit to St.Paul’s Cathedral on Friday evening resulted in some great photographs (even if I do say so myself) of one of London’s most famous landmarks. The beautiful early evening spring light lit up the dome of the cathedral, whilst casting the surrounding buildings into shadow. Despite part of the cathedral being shrouded in cloth due to repair work, I think these photos are some of the best that I’ve taken for a while (with more to follow in the next few days).
And all because of the light…

these pictures are not that great and they repeat themselves too many times. As a photo essay I give it a minus rating.

I think they're really nice - I like the gold colour the sun has given the cathedral. They seem to be more a set of "photos of the cathedral and it's surrounding area" rather than just the cathedral. It definitely makes them more interesting

There are really only two pictures here. I find the angled intrusion foreground in the second shot disturbing. Only the bottom shot has some merit because of the many windows on the left. A little more of these shadows should have been brought ought, like 5-10%. The tunnel vision of St. Paul is not a new approach. If you do it, you really need terribly interesting left and right sides to make it stand out. Otherwise, it's too common place.

I like the first and last. Very reminiscent of the pictures of Petra.

Your site is getting better and better too. Most informative.

Thanks to everyone for their feedback
I agree that the tunnel vision of St. Pauls is a bit old-hat, but then again I think the golden light makes a big difference.
They're not really menat to be a photo essay as such, more a "public airing" so that I can get a feel for what people like. I also find that blogging helps me to decide what I like - these are very new photographs that I haven't grown into yet.
The bench in the foreground of the 2nd shot is what attracted me - it kind of acts as a lead-in line to the Cathedral. Well, I think so anyway
