Tamrac has launched the ZipShot, a photographic tripod that springs into action in a matter of seconds. The ZipShot quickly attaches to the handles of camera bags, and at 312 grams and just 38 centimetres long when collapsed, it can be taken practically anywhere. Featuring a 360-degree pivoting ball head, the Tamrac ZipShot has a maximum payload of 1.35kg, and can be extended to a height of 112 centimetres. Simply release the two red shock cords, and the legs spring open in seconds. The Tamrac ZipShot tripod is available now via Adorama for $49.95.

I guess that we can´t expect a sturdy tripod, but as a lightweight alternative it might be great

I just got one and it fits the bill for lightweight portability. It is not "sturdy" but it will provide just the right amount of support to gain a steady shot in low light situations. I can strap all legs together and to a tree limb using double sided Velcro to get absolute rock steady support.

If you need a versatile, lightweight tripod, this is it.

Picked one up at B&H, going to return tomorrow. Very unstable, you can't hit the shutter button without it the thing whobbling. No sturdiness at all, can't even trust my cheap Samsung video camera on it.

You're supposed to use the timer delay function when physically pressing the shutter. You'll get camera movement on even the best tripods out there when pressing the shutter.

Been using this in conjunction with a sigma DP1 for night shots. Just the ticket. As 'ROC' above says use it with the time delay release and itsa just fine for a compact type camera
