The Canon EOS 20D Rumour Mill

Mark Goldstein | Digital SLR Cameras | August 6, 2004 | 2 Comments

I’ve not been following this too closely, as I’m perfectly happy with my Canon EOS 10D (and won’t be upgrading), but the rumour about an 8 megapixel Canon EOS 20D, complete with an EF-S lens and 1.6x sensor , seems to be the most prevalent one at the moment. At least according to Bob Atkins and his Canon EOS Rumours page.

If the 10D replacement is in fact still based on a 1.6x lens factor I am NOT going to buy it. I do not care if it is 8MP's or 20MP's. If the lens factor is still 1.6x I am not going to buy it. I will ONLY buy it if the lens factor is 1.3x or better. Although only 6MP's, the Minolta Dynax 7 Digital will have a 1.5x lens factor and ANTI-SHAKE for about the same price or less!

I agree about the 1.3x comment, only if Canon does not produce a better quality EF-S mount lens.

If they release some quality glass with an EF-S mount, then I'll take the 1.6x. I have only a few Canon lenses that would be lost in the re-shuffle of mounts.

However, if they were to produce a more cost effective 1.3x-sized sensor, everyone would be happy smile
