The Two Classes of Digital Cameras

Mark Goldstein | Digital | May 12, 2004 | 4 Comments

Ken Rockwell has written an informative and opionated article that compares point and shoot digital cameras with digital SLRs (found via Digital Photography Blog).

“If you want to spend a grand for serious digital photography forget the expensive p/s cameras and go straight to any DSLR. Since you can get a far superior DSLR for what you used to have to pay for just a p/s as of 2004 I see no need for the expensive p/s digital cameras.”

Good link - the noise differences between the pro 8mp cameras and 6mp DSLR is astonishing. (as per luminouse landscapes comparison)

What are you thoughts on Ken's digital vs film article: http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/filmdig.htm - which is contrary to luminous landscape's article on the same subject?

The MP of camera are meaningless. It not the size but what the camera does with those MP that really counts in the end. A Canon 1D a 4MP camera, is a far better camera than Canon's 10D 6 MP camera. Canon 10D is a far better camera than those latest consumer 8MP cameras.

Ken is his typical arrogant self, very full of himself, and, yes, very opinionated, prejudiced is actually the right term, he sounds true and believable but he isn't at all.

Please don't take this guy seriosuly. He has repeatedly debunked cameras and scanners he hasn't even seen or used. How can anyone call that objective?

Too bad that his generalizations got posted here.

I agree, Ken has a way of talking down at the readers, he is sooooooo pedantic, and that's soooooooooo pathetic.
